Spray can handle attachment

This question might best be answered by everyone that uses spray paint, but anyone is more than welcome to chime in.

I noticed on the YouTube video of the gentleman from Expert Village painting a model car that he used a handle attachment on a spray paint can. Something similar to this:

From what I understand the main purpose of the attachment is to save your index finger the hassle of having to continually depress the can nozzle, but does it also help control the strength of the spray? Has anyone used this on car models with any success? I'm seriously considering purchasing something along these lines because I'm just not able to justify an airbrush this early in my newest addicition (errr...hobby).

Thoughts?

I'm pretty sure it will work for turning the can "on and off" but, TBH, I wouldn't expect it to deliver you any meaningful degree of paint flow/pressure control - the aerosol valve itself just isn't sensitive enough for that IMO.

Personally I'd use my index finger and put the money saved towards another model, tin of paint or into the airbrush fund ;)

I actually use one of these quite a bit. They're much easier/better for kids (or people with weak hands) to use.

They don't regulate the flow in any way, but I do find that it's easier to hold the button down all the way, and not get that dreaded splatter that sometimes shows up after your finger gets tired and lets up on the trigger a bit.

Also, no paint on the tip of your finger.

Does it make better paint jobs? No. But it is handy.

I use one on a regular basis. I find it gives me better control of the actual spraying process, though it does not improve the quality of the paint job. It puts your hand in a more comfortable position. less tiring on your hand and wrist. The one I have I purchased for $.99 at the local family dollar store. well worth it if you asked me.

I agree a hundred percent...Adding different sources to what can go wrong in this delicate process of painting gives me goosebumps. I try to keep it as simple as it can be.
