Hi, just wondering does anyone know where you can get an actual replacement dashboard. my friends 77 caprices dash is crack beyond belief and he wants a new dashboard, not a carpet, and not a cover/overlay that you glue on. Can you get an ACTUAL DASHBOARD from somewhere? if anyone know, please let me know, thanks

I would also like to find the same for my 88 caprice. I haven't tried a cover or anything I just think it might be funky looking. :nono:

No longer made, have not been available through the dealerships since the mid-late 90s. There are no complete aftermarket parts made either, good luck.
Been there, done that. I completely covered mine in gray felt (actually, that stuff they sell as 'carpet' in the roll), it turned out ok, you can see pictures of it in the link below.

Also, the dash cover is the same from 1977-1990. The main difference you might encounter from one car to another is whether it has a center speaker or two outboard speakers (like mine).

"Just Dashes" is the place I know of. They take your dash and refoam it and recover it. If you go with them let us all know what it costs because I don't know anybody without a cracked Caprice dash.

I see them in alot of magazines. I plan on getting mine done there eventually (unless I find a burgundy NOS dash that's been in the cardboard box in a climate controlled environment for the last 20 years yah right).
Also if you find one a good one in a parts car you can always have an upholstery shop dye it to match your interior, I had that done on an old Mercury I had.

Also try www.car-part.com . I just did a quick search and there were quite a few listed. Many were around $150. Just enter your info in the search boxes and you'll see the results. Some listings also have the color and/or condition.

my first caprice had no cracks in the dash, the caprice i have now was re-covered with some type of fake leather that was glued on, it actually looks really good like it was always like that.

i was lucky enough that when i got my parts caprice (85 wagon) it had a BEAUTIFUL dash. not a single crack in it. and the same color. now putting it in i pressed on a corner adn put one tiny crack in it but its not even noticable.

Trust me that crack will spread fast if you don't protect it. Get on one of those windshield sun blocker things. They really do work wonders at stopping cracks from spreading on vinyl and plastic.
