my rear running lights are not working, though my actual brake lights and blinkers are working fine, so obviously the leg of the running light circuit that takes power to the running light filament in the taillight bulbs is broken or shorted out. is there a typical spot where a break in the circuit occurs on these trucks? a friend of mine said his tahoe used to be like that and then it suddenly started working again, so i figure something must be loose...

check bulb sockets and wiring plugs back there, separate and clean them all, make them clean and dry
whatever it is its a VERY common problem on the 88-up trucks
see it all the time every day, ppl driving these trucks around with some really messed up lights
good luck

I would guarantee that the problem is in your taillight circuit board. For some reason, bad initial design, GM trucks of our era eat these like candy.

I had the same issue with my 89 4x4. My problem ended up being in the wiring harness near the back of the truck above the spare tire. The ground wire was orrroded where it hooked to the frame and one of the wires had broken(running lights). A quick splice and new ground lug and everything is fine now. Hope this helps.

cool, i hadn't thought of a grounding problem since i just assumed they all used the same ground. i'll have to check it out and see what's up
