We need a lot more info. Give us a full break down of the combo and we can get you a close starting point. But the final result will come from testing at the track.

Is the timing locked? I'm not a nitrous guru but I would start out around 10*.

are you still having trouble? did you put colder plugs? regap the plugs to around .035? when you say it wont run right, whats it doing? i had the same set up on a 93 lx 306.... it worked like a charm...12.00 on slicks

also i belive the rule of thumb is 2 degrees of retard per 50hp of nos, maybe 2 degrees per 100hp im not sure. if its not detonating then it's prob not the timing

hey lx 351 when you had your set up what did you have your timing set at? I am seeing peopl get 18 to 20 degrees of timing on there 5.0 is this with spout in or out did you have yours in or out and did you have a custom chip burned for your computer cause i was thionking of getting one burned if so do you no any good chips and were and what to get them burned .

anyone else out there in 5.0 land that can help i would appreciate it

i was running around 18 degrees with no problems, i feel the car wouldve handled more timing but i was playing it safe, and excuse my ignorance but i dont know what you mean by "spout in"? My car had the stock chip, as far as i know, i just added a 255 pump put in one step colder plugs and backed off the timing about 6degrees from where i was and the car ran like a beast, i eventually backed off 4 more degrees and put a 200 shot on it, i never got to run it at the track with those jets but i sprayed it on the street and it was amazing

so.. you never really told us what your car does when you try to spray it, it's hard to tell you what direction to go in...without knowing

lx 351 I only tryed to shoot it once and the mustang shop out here told me to put it at 8 degree timing ran like crap but now talking with you and other threads i'm going to get the timing up as much as i can them take some off . I probly will put it at 18 then with nitrous back it down to14 degree is that pretty much what you was looking at? Oh and what i mean about the spout it's that little plug connector by the distributor that you take out to do the timing. some threads show people setting timing at 18 to 21 then put plug in ,others take plug out set it to 36 to 38 and leave it out so it's locked and can't advance. let me no what you think

i think you should, set the timing at around 12 degrees advance, and start out with a smaller shot like around 100. and make sure you're only spraying it at wide open throttle. You deff need to check your plugs right after you spray it.. that will tell you what you need to know, and i would leave the plug connecter hooked up, a stock 5.0 comp. will adjust the fuel curve if it starts to run lean(to a certain extent) so it needs everything hooked up. thats just my opinion and from my expieriance. trust me though, when you get it right it will be awesome

Start with a 100 shot and read the plugs after the pull. There is no reason to lock the timing out on a nitrous car. I would first make sure you are running the correct nitrous jet in the correct selinoid and the correct fuel jet in the correct location (fuel selinoid). You must remove the computer control when checking timing. Fox bodies you disconnect the connector from the distributor and sn95's you unplug the spout connector on the passanger fenderwell near the intake. Once you set the timing plug it back in.
Run at least 93 octane, one step colder plugs, over 150 shot I would run 2 steps colder, start at 100 shot and 8-10 degrees base timing, check the plugs. I wouldn't run more than 8 degrees base timing on the 150 shot. But being an aluminum head you can get away with more timing advance.
But your problem seems like something else besides timing. You maybe close to maxing out that pump on nitrous.
May have to add an inline as well, monitor your fuel pressure on a pass
43 psi should be fine, vaccum disconnected.

this from a nitrous user on a 306 hopped up motor.you need to advance your timing at the track as much as possible,on every run (no nos)then when u advanced it enough to were you r not loosing hp,take two degrees off.then run it again.should not be a big difference.now the rule of thumb is for every 50 shot you put on the car, you retard your timing 2 degrees.if you are just using a 150 shot,2 degrees is plenty on top of the 2 degrees you retarded on your last run without nos.i retarded mine 4 degrees on a 250-275 shot.runs like a scolded dog!!!i'd suggest installing a msd timing control in your car.makes it alot easier.
