Harmonic Balancer

Anyone know anything about the Harmonic Balancer? I have 1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager that shakes/wobbles when I accelerate between 35mph -50mph. I'm told it is the harmonic balancer. I have priced the balancer (3.3 engine) at $30-$50. [3.0 engine balancers are priced at closer to $100] Anyone have any idea what a shop will charge in terms of labor hours?

I have checked the condition of tires and rims, any other suggestions to check out before I pursue replacing the harmonic balancer?

Ps. I don't intend to do this repair myself, since I am likely to do more harm than good but I do know a few "freelance" mechanics.

Please do yourself and everyone else a favor and tell us how you determined that the harmonic balancer is truly bad and any other cause was eliminated??

I would hate to see you waste good money on someone else's "wild ass guess".

i was actually hoping for some other ideas of places to check. But I did have someone more mechanical take a look and he said it wasn't the harmonic balancer. He didn't have time to drive it or take a more extensive look. After reading further in the Caravan/Voyager forum, I am pretty sure the problem is with the halfshafts. Can anyone concure or tell me how to know for sure?
