need to reinstall shift knob!! help!!

:confused: hey i need to install my automatic shift knob for 2002 gt spyder, i get the screws on but it wont change from park. works with the knob off i just have to push it down. get new shifter? or am i an idiot?:uhoh:

when you install a auto shift knob does it have the button to press down on? i install his for my friend and that weird plastic peice and was in the old knob you can throw that away and place the knob on to stick but it has to go all the way down and push up your button....if you baught a long ass knob then you will have to get a shorter one.......post pics if you need more guidence
