Hi,

I have a 2001 Z3 generating a lound
squeeling noise during a cold start. the
noise usually last for about 20 seconds.

brought it into the dealer and they said
ithe noise is coming from the airpump, and
itt's normal. bring it back when it gets
louder. They also retensioned all
the belts during other service visits.

Well, I am bringing it back to the dealer
next monday, and was wondering any
Z3 owners have had this problem before
how was it fixed. Thanks advavance for
your advice.

Regards,
David :flash:

GOOD LUCK. I HAD NOTHING BUT TROBLES WITH MY 2000 RED BMW Z3. 7 TIMES IN THE SHOP FOR OVER A MONTH AND IT CAME BACK IN THE SAME CONDITION. I THINK WHEN THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH A BMW AND THEY DO NOT WANT TO FIX IT THEY CALL IT NORMAL, LIKE THE SEAT ROCKING BACK AND FORTH ON THE SEAT TRACK AS YOU SHIFT AND BRAKE. HAY HAVE YOU SEEN THE NEW 350 Z ROADSTER, IT WILL BLOW THE DOORS OFF A Z4:smoker: :smoker: :smoker: :smoker:

Hello
Try this it works for me.
The squealing noise is coming from the bearing behind the engine fan.
To cure this you get a can of WD40 or similar type of penetrating oil. With the car switched off open the hood. Look behind the engine fan.
You will see a big nut attached to the engine. Squirt a little oil between the engine and the nut. It is easier if you have a can with an extension nozzle so you dont get the oil everywhere. This should cure it. Has the engine been washed lately? This usually happens because the lubrication has been washed away. Each time I wash the engine I do the above.

Had the same problem. Three trips to the dealer without any luck. Replaced the fan belt, that fixed it.
