Transmission Problem

My parents have a 2000 Kia Sportage 4X4 with the 2.0L. The transmission doesnt shift into high gear like it should. If its cool out or early in the morning is the only time it does it. It runs about a quater mile then shifts into high gear, after this it will shift just fine all day. I dont know what to do. Any help will be apreciated.

I have a 2001 Sporty, does the same thing in the morning when cold. Found out this a normal thing for this transmission.
It is supposed to help the tranny warm up. Once it has everything works as normal.

I kinda figured it was normal myself. But I dont remember it doing it when they first got it. Although they got it during the summer.
