I have a 95 SHO and the A/C is not working. Notorious for a car that was parked for over 2 year. I took it to my mechanic yesterday (which a/c is not his area of expertise) and he tells me after putting some gas (1 can) in the compresor it should had turned on but it didnt. It blows very hot air, the fans turn on and there is power in the circuit that goes down to the A/C system. Is this a good sign that the compresor is gone?

Please advise.

If the compressor clutch is not engaging, it's not a sign the compressor is bad. If the compressor clutch is engaging and the belt is not squealing and the compressor is not rattling, then the problem is likely elsewhere. I suspect though that the compressor clutch is not engaging, and you need to figure out why. If you momentarily bypass the pressure switch, does the compressor engage? Is so, obviously don't leave it in this mode, but get a set of guages and see what the charge is like. The pressure switch is part of the system to ensure the compressor won't come on if the system is low on charge since the refridgerant is what circulates the lubrication oil through the system.

Just found out what is the issue with my A/C unit. The compressor is gone and the temperature blend door actuator is not working. I just found the mechanism in ebay very cheap and the compressor I am getting it used. So my date to complete is July 1st. Will report progress.
