Should I buy an 08 or 09 Lancer?

I had an 89 chevy cavalier from feb 2005-mar 2008 and had to replace almost every part... alternator to steering column to ignition coils to exhaust and so forth.. and it still wasn't running right and died on me because the push button start i was FORCED to jimmy rig (so the car would start) got shorted out.. so its technically still an option to fix it but fu(k that car it put me through hell and my girlfriend refuses to ride in it anyway cuz its dangerous.

so

i began to purchase my best friends 98 M3 convertible w/ 69k miles for only 9000 because he was trying to unload a huge insurance payment of like 700 since he had a dui... i drove the car for less than a month and crashed it wednesday morning as some lady made an illegal left turn and then stopped in front of me... so her insurance will pay but it only pays 14k which covers the 9k i owe + the loan my good friend took out for 5k to pay off the car because 14k was what he actually owed on it... so thats wiped clean.. i wasnt injured much just a nasty headache for a day and a half.

i like the lancer 08/09 i just checked one out at a dealership and wanted to know if there are any differences between the two and if the gts is worth it compared to the es.. i dont care about sport suspension or any other bells n whistles except i want the sun and sound package... what should i do..?

The 2008 GTS has the same relatively underpowered 2.0L engine as the ES, it just has the paddle shifters (which are connected to a CVT - which seems incredibly pointless to me) and 18" rims and a few other body pieces.

In '09 the GTS will get a 2.4L and will be probably worth the extra money, as for now though I would pass on the GTS and use that money on other stuff.

i'm not looking for that 2.4 option, trying to save a little on gas..

i'll more than likely get the ES but i was wondering... i test drove one with a nav system and the aux input had not only red and white audio inputs but also a yellow video input.... does that mean i can connect an ipod or zune and play videos on the screen?

if your that concerned about gas, buying a car in general wouldn't be an approach to take lol
most in line 4 engines give you decent gas milage. i just bout an 09 lancer GT, picked it up thursday with a full tank of gas and only 17 clicks on her. i just broke over 400 kilometers and it still shows "190 kms" remaining on the gauge....(those aren't always accurate, but ya get the idea how good it is on gas)
besides, saving on gas all depends on how much you want to drive and how heavy of a foot you have and wut your using it for

as for you buying one, i deffinately would. n the GTS would be worth it if you can afford it due to the many little features inside the car ie. auto window wipers, auto headlights, keyless entry...i like customizing my cars so i got the GT so i could add more stuff right now

Yes if you have the cord you can hook it up. There is a way around the DVD park feature too. But I owned an 08 Es and I loved it, gas was great. I got around 30mpg.
The 09s really have nothing on the 08s except for the extra .4 I know people who have both and they are all happy. With the upgraded GTS you get cosmetic features and a sport tuned suspension which I hear is very nice, however you pay for it. I bought my ES for around 13k and it was well worth it. I traded up for a Ralliart, but well worth it while I had it.

If you can find an old 08 I would recommend that, if not go for a 09 ES as they use all the same parts, engine and cosmetic. Upgrades are the same for both!

I've driven several 2.0 and 2.4 Lancers, there is really no difference with the CVT. If you get the manual, it runs a LOT better IMO.

I think there are big differences between both ones.

Not really, 10-15hp maybe.

The 05 ralliart is the best.

i say STAY AWAY these cars are hell in a can i have one, trying to get rid of it and i cant really because i still howe too much.

car is too expensive for what it is (pale imitation of a civic and corolla breed)
ot comes with a hunch of problems let say suspension problems are the one that keeps coming back, faulty radio (went through 3 of them),faulty cluster (on the 6th one as it is). As it sits now I have 11 pages of fixed under garantee stuff on my car,and i will still have to get my transmission changed next tuesday, i have no 3rd or 4th gear, they are blocked.

for the same price you will get a whole lot more from a VW rabbit/golf

oh and btw lancers have absolutely NO and i mean NO resale value.
2 years ago (june 2007) bought the car for 26k,now its worth a whooping n10800$ with 27 000 kms on it, pretty ridiculous.

I don't see many problems with the newer lancers at all. You must have just gotten a bad one. They're pretty nice cars. And no car holds its value, a 40k$ car will lose just as much value as any other car, there is just more room for it to drop.
