hello all i have a fairly well kept 96 thunderbird lx 3.8 with 100021 miles and for some reason the other night the shifter stopped working entirely...i can press the button and move the shifter up and down but it will not put the car into any gear...any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated the wife really loves this car and it would be a shame if it cant be fixed.

Can you feel the shifter go into the different shift position detents while you hold the button in or does it move freely back and forth? If you're lucky the linkage might have come off. You'll have to put the car up on jackstands to get underneath it. With the engine off and the key in the Run position, have someone move the shift lever back and forth while you look and see if it moves the lever on the drivers side of the transmission.

I usually order right from the website but they didn't have your cable listed so I gave you the phone#. They have always been cheaper then my local dealer, even with shipping. I'm glad you got what you needed.
