Brush Guard Problem

Does anyone know if brush guards for the Cherokee fit all years? i.e. can you put a brush guard from an 86 onto a 2000 cherokee. I bought one that was supposedly removed from a 2000 but it will not fit my cherokee(which is a 2000). I strongly suspect that the person I bought it from found that it did not fit his 2000 cherokee so he turned around and sold it to some other sap. Namely me!! If I could get some measurements of the distance between the bolts used to mount brush guards to Cherokees maybe I can figure out what years this brush guard fits and get my money back from the seller. I know that 1997 was a change over year for the cherokee so if I could get some measurements pre-97 and post-97 that would be great. Thanks in advance. Steve
