Help!! Poor Jetta!!! plase!!

I have a 1997 jetta GLS and seems to be having power problems or somthing cant find it tho. The car will not start in the normal position it hardly starts when the key is turned one direction to the right wher normally just the air and radio should come on but it cranks up and will never crank in the right position. the radio doesnt work and the seatbelt and door alarms dont work, i checked all the fuses and thats not the problem sounds like my starter works and everything clicks like it should.. the check engine light is on and when i do get my car running is runs fine but lately has been sounding a little worse.. please any suggestions will help for im very new to working on cars...
