my 96 eclipse gst wont start

i just bought this car and replaced the starter. i have a 96 eclipse gst and it wont start.. replaced the starter and all i hear is the winding of the starter. i can pop the clutch and it will start but cant turnover the key and start. what possibly could it be?? maybe the flyweel??

It could be the flywheel, I would pull the starter off and inspect the flywheel. Turn the motor by hand and look at all the teeth. If the flywheel is fine then the starter is not kicking out and engaging with the flyhwheel.

Did it not start before you replaced the starter? My brothers truck did the same thing with a new starter from Autozone. Turned out to bad alternator right out of the box. Just spun, but didn't crank.

yea i just got the car and it didnt have a starter in it before.. i had to pop the clutch. but there were no teeth on the flywheel. so i guess im gonna get a new clutch and flywheel. go on ebay and get a ktd stage 3 clutch and flywheel. if it doesnt start then what do u think it could be??? but also u dont have to have a certain kind of flywheel do u?? just any kind but a lightweight

No teeth on the flywheel?? Did you expect it to start with a new starter with a broken flywheel?? Your clutch is fine just replace the flywheel. Unless you want to do the whole thing while your in there. Also a stage 3 clutch is way overkill for what you will be doing with the car. Unless you have some high hp goals that you plan to hit soon.

it didnt have a starter when i bought it.. so when i put in the starter i saw that there wasnt any teeth on the flywheel. so a stage 3 clutch is to much.. never new that. so i should go with a stage 2. ok i got a another question. might also be the flywheel also.. but sometimes when i floor it.. it puts and then gets up and go. like it sounds like there is no gas getting through or something like that.. im not real sure. like u floor it and it takes a minute to get up and go.. like wanting to stall out or somethin

Try to do a boost leak test, that might be part of your problem. Also post some links of some clutches that you are looking at and we can tell you whether or not it would be overkill for you.

alright so if it is still acting up when i get the flywheel i will do that. hopefully its just the flywheel not catching on and makin it do that when i try to punch it.. but im gonna try to get a f1 stage 2 clutch and a fidanza flywheel. i got the money right now but im gonna wait till my irs check comes in from the gvt. next week.. so i can get it and get it installed. but yea its a good project car for me.

F1 stage 2? what is that? a 2100lb pressure plate? what mods you have? i bet you could rock stock for cheaper, if you arent making anything near... what guys... 300whp? my stocker didnt slip till i ran 24psi on "race gas" and link says *and i QUOTE! "383whp"... HA! i wish! but none the less, it started slipping
O.P.~ i would get an ACT clutch, they are proven to perform in the DSM's... thats what i will be gettin, thats what everyone else has, and thats what everyone will always have. becasue we know they are good... just :2cents:

f1 clutch is off of ebay. its formula 1.. but not sure wat i have in my car.. i just got it. i kno there is a turbo. headers. prolly bout a 3 inch catback exhaust. 96 eclipse gst.

what kind of turbo you got? if you dont know, can you spin the tires in second if you punch it at 20mph? if you can RAPE the tires in second (W/O having to pop the clutch...) then i would say stage 2 (2100lb act) is the way to go... i'm getting a 2600 6 puck... but i know where i want my car to go... ;) check the sig

lol yea i can spin the tires in second easily. but umm yea i got headers a turbo and a injen intake.. so yea i guess ill go wit a stage 2.. but hopefully when i get my flywheel it will stop puttin when i floor it sometimes. has ur car ever done that?? i do need to change the oil. maybe that might be the problem.. get a tune up and shit:smile:

What do you mean stop "puttin" when you floor it? What exactly does it do, does it "stutter" like it doesn't want to take off? If so, change the plugs. And get the rest of the car tuned up at the same time.

yea its sputterin.. it doesnt want to get up and go sometimes.. so thats wat i figured a tune up.. while im getting my clutch and flywheel done im gonna get a tune up.. so how much can ur car get up 2?? with speed
