I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how difficult it is to replace the harmonic balancer on a 97 Chevy Venture. Mine broke off while driving. I am thinking about trying to replace it myself.

What do you mean it broke off? Is it gone? I've had the bolt come loose and then the balancer just fell off, but not sure what broke means.
If its just good and truly gone, good. You can just pick up another at a junk yard, order a new bolt and no problem. If the bolt is broken off, you need to lower the engine down to get at it with an easy out tool. That's pretty ugly.

All the torque is on the head of the bolt. The threaded portion shoud be loose in the crank. You will probably need to check the seal and key for damage.

We have a 2003 Alero 3.4 liter engine with 115,000 miles on it. We took it in to have the harmonic balancer replaced. We picked the car up the same day and on the way home, the car would "stumble" or hesitate at 30-40 mph and then again at 60-70 wpm. We have had the transmission serviced, a tune up done, the fuel injectors cleaned. replaced engine module as well as the car has gone through a battery of tests. No luck. Any ideas? Thanks...
