my 90 cherokee is having some acceleration problems along with shifting problems. my pedal feels real squishy and when i try to accelerate it misses, then i have to mash on it and i get backfire from that, it shifts out of place(like it doesnt know what gear to be in).......its gotta be one of the electronic sensors...not sure which one though..i just had an exhaust upgrade as well, do i need new O2 sensors?..i changed cap, rotor, plugs, wires and my fuel pump is new...also i dont think i can check codes because of OBD-1 renix ecu...lookin for similar problems.thanks

It's not OBD-1. It's just refered to as RENIX for Renault-Bendix.

You need to know how to use a multimeter. My guess is start with the TPS.

If you just had the exhaust "upgraded", did youhave the exhaust manifole removed. If so I would start there, for and improper seal, causing an vac leak.
