92 Dakota Sensor Identification

I pulled the motor on my 92 Dakota, 5.2L last week. I was just checking everything over before I dropped it back in and I found this sensor hanging. It was near the back of the engine compartment near the firewall. It was apparently damaged when I removed the motor. The wire connector was still hooked up but the other end looks like it was broken off of a mouting bracket on the side. It doesn't look like it goes into anything but then I guess it doesn't make sense to me what it is sensing. Does anyone have any idea? I need to replace it and don't know where to start looking. It's approx. .75" diameter and has an overall length of 12".

It looks broke where it bolts on it might hold with a large washer. I doubt it runs without this unless you installed a scrap yard motor with on already installed.
