Well It was that time of the year again and I had to get my car etested. I had a distinct feeling it was going to fail but I never imagined it would fail harder than they had ever seen before... I'm so proud right now
I'm not too worried about it but this is pretty hilarious so I had to show.

Because of the mods that he has. He probably has stripped out everything and anything dealing with emissions. Probably not cat, no egr, cams put out more emissions, and dsmlink I'm sure helps to it. And of course the turbo is pushing more exhaust out at a higher rate. Tada!

oh ok,nice to find out something new.only thing i knew about talons was my neighbor had one and did one wheel peel clutch drops all the time, and eventually he torched the motor.so what are you gonna do to pass emissions or do you have to pass in your state?

Good math Thor.

They usually give you 3 times to pass before any action gets taken.

See, I always knew that modding a car and taking out emissions shit was going to make the emissions go down the tubes, but I always thought it would be a marginal increase... like rather than being 200 ppm, it would be like 275 or 300. No way in hell did I think it would completely fuck emissions like that!!

I passed emissions on the old Laser with lots of mods (fuel/intake/ECU/etc)

This seems odd, but then again, we no longer have emissions for non-OBDII cars here.

The way they do it here is that you are required to pass emissions to get a new sticker for your plate. Driving with expired stickers is illegal and thats where you get the ticket. It sucks cause now I have expired tags. I have really only two options. One try and find a scummy shop that will just pass my car without testing it (by putting a different car on machine) or two steal someones sticker off their car.
I think the main contributors to this number are the cams and the bigger injectors with the different injector pulse. My numbers go way down when the car rpms are brought up so it is kinda clear that the lope from the 272's at idle is hurting it bad. I think there is no way I will pass unless I can sneak in a full ethanol tank of gas just to pass then switch back afterwards. I would have to change my fuel settings and prevent my car from making any boost but I think it is possible.

Would lowering the airflow sliders in the 50 and150hz range in DSMLink make any difference?

It likely would but i would still fail for sure

What if you were to bolt up a temporary cat, and turn down the boost? Just a thought. We don't have emissions tests in SC.

The boost is really a non issue since it doesn't actually hit any boost. The turbo really only acts as a slight blockage in the in the intake during these tests.

Maybe lower the fuel pressure, and/or pop some smaller injectors in? What rpm do they usually do the emissions check at?

Step 1) Have a friend do their test.
Step 2) Friend "loses" stickers.
Step 3) Pay friend.
Step 4) Friend goes back and restests due to lost stickers.

Problem solved.

I like Thors Idea since it doesn't involve me needing to do any work. A cat does not gurantee a pass either. The smaller injectors would likely help a ton but the cams are staying in the car. What a waste though. Ill update on what scheme I pull.

Find a shady mechanic who will put someone else's car on it. I found a guy where you just tell him "I need an inspection sticker," Not "I need an inspection."
He hooks me up for a few extra bucks.
