Hello, I am new here so hello to everyone.
I need to replace my engine in a 1998 Grand Prix GTP.
Can someone tell me how the engine comes out? Is it possible to do in a private garage without a hoist or does it come out the bottom?
I would like to spend as little as possible on the job as I intend to sell it afterward.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to AF.

Even if you do the work in your garage I would highly recommend renting an engine hoist to hold the engine/autotransaxle. Best to drop the engine/transaxle on the subframe intact and drop it down with the car raised up sufficiently. Also, a lot of stuff has to be removed or disconnected before you get to that point but it can be a DIY job.

Hey, I finally got my new engine in. It has 57,000 Km on it and cost me a mere 800 dollars and 900 to put in at my favorite garage. It runs great and sure is a lot tighter than that old one lol.
I think I got a good deal all around. What do you guys think?
I am in Canada so judge accordingly.
Thanks.

Even though it is a used engine, I think you paid very little for it...

I would say that it would have been great to have that new engine rebuilt before you put it in...maybe for performance *wink*
