Here's one of my current projects. It's far from completion, but I think the basic shape is there.

This is the TRD 2000GT widebody setup for the MR2. It makes the MR2 appear awfully F40LM-ish.

Your on the right path to an awesome MR2.

Wrong reference photo. Here's the one its based on.

The wheel arches in this white one are not as deep as in the red one above.

Styrene sheet. It's much easier to cut symmetrical shapes with styrene than to carve epoxy on both sides with exact symmetry.

I'm using the bolt-on approach right now, that's why the add-on parts don't appear to sit tightly against the body. All the plastic parts are held in place with metal pins, so if I want to cast the parts when I've finished, all I have to do is pull them off.

very cool idea about the pins and also nice model! keep us updated.

I've seen a number of varying photos. Some of them have a raised plate for the rear louvres, while others have the louvres on a recessed plate.

The Fujimi MR2GT comes with a recessed plate. Is this accurate for the widebody 2000GT body, or do I have to raise it?

flyonthewall

Not 100% certain but i believe the raised vents are found on the turbo version of the car and nothing to do with the TRD bodykit. The only part assosciated with the engine cover in the kit is a lip that etxtends the edge of the cover to 'square off' the rear - if that makes sense!?

The raised louvers on the rear hood is only on the turbo version. The TRD 2000 GT is a turbo version (2.0 Litre engine = 2000 GT). The normally aspirated is a 2.2 litre engine. and does not come with raised vetns but a slightly lowered louvers. I just sold a 1993 MR2 NA. Here is a pic if I can get it to work.

I have a TRD wide body I custom made for that same kit. My first attempt was ruined after I tried to heat the body and warped it, so I bought another kit to try and replace the melted parts........TOO much work, I lost motivation (Mainly because the model was for my friend who is no longer my friend) I will take pics tonight and maybe you can use the parts I have left over, I already have the kit made up.

Man that body kit is awsome!! Makes me wish I still had my 91 MR2:D

OT:but I really miss my MR2 it was a very early production number it was considered a 90 1/2 not a 91 but had the new body style. If I remember right the car had a vin number under 5000. My was red of course and had a sun roof.
Man I miss it! :(

what a coincidence ive working on a TRD 2000GT wide body kit as well. at first i was gonna do it free hand with putty, but its hard to get both side symetric doing it free hand. im doing it with styrene sheets now, got all the pieces done cept for the front bumper.

heres sneak peek at what ive done, i havent glue the styrene sheets down yet so i tape it down to the body.

I'm about to begin work on the front skirt, but something strikes me as a bit odd here.

Different photos of the 2000gt bodykit show the front lip at different angles, as seen here.

Which one is supposed to be the right way?

tazdev
03-06-2003, 01:49 AM
I would say that the bottom one is the correct one as it seems to "flow" better with the rest of the lines of the car.

the top one just doesn't seem right IMO

sausage
03-06-2003, 02:36 AM
I feel the same way. The original Fujimi MR2 factory body's front skirt is shaped like the first though - angled upwards.

sausage
03-07-2003, 04:30 AM
Anyone? Does anyone have a photo of this bodykit from another angle that shows the slope of the front lip clearly?

flyonthewall
03-07-2003, 04:48 AM
Bottom drawing is correct, its the angles of the pics that are confusing you.

Can't wait to see all these MR2's complete, you guy's are really increasing my eagerness to get started on my transkit for.

About a year back i did the TRD style front for this Z31

That's very nice work. When'll we see the finished product?

Anyway with regard to the MR2 front lip, there's still a slight upward turn if you follow the red line. I guess I'll be doing it this way then.

Total number of all 2 generation MR2 imported to the US/Canada was only 15,705. in 1991 they imported 9,505. I owned a 1993 and there were only 1,742.
