A/C Compressor Belt Change

Does anyone know how to change the A/C compressor belt on a '96 Civic?
There's a shaft near the bottom that seems to prevent you from slipping the belt off. Does this need to be removed? are there any photos or 'how-to's' here that explain how to do it?
