Keyless Entry

The buttons on the key that have normally locked and unlocked my vehicle are no longer working. Also, the panel that lights up on the radio/cd player no longer works. However, the radio and cd work fine. These things happened around the same time, are they related or is it a coincidence? What is the solution?
