yes, i own a 97 pontiac gp 3.8 engine. the check engine light has been coming with codes #171, 336, 402 what is the problem. all help would be appreciated. some times the tachometer will quit working while driving, once i stop and turn of engine it will work again.

The DTC of concern and probably causing the tach issue is the P0336 which is a crank position sensor range/performance issue. Not sure but it may cause the other DTCs to set so get that taken care of first as far as priority.
P0171 is a lean condition and a fuel trim DTC and P0402 is an EGR related fault. Flow too excessive.

thanks for the help, so take care of the crankshaft postion sensor, is it hard to install and if so would you have and diagrams of the location.

Also, be sure to clear the DTCs after CKPS replacement and then see if the DTCs reoccur. Good luck.

Funny a Bad CKPS would set a DTC isnt it? I've never had that happen on a 3800 before.

yes, i tried to replace the cps and been having troubles with the removal. the nut on the end of the pulley,will nut turn, the whole pulley turns,is there a trick in loosening it. i don't have a impact?
