87 jeep cherokee electrical problem

My jeeps heater, radio, blower, wipers, and rear defroster will not work. The fuses are good, and they sometimes kick on for a few minutes. In the fuse panel fuses 1-5 run these items. I am out of things to check. Can someone help me please. Thanks for any help. Need help as soon as possible.

Did you check for voltage, where the fuse plugs-in, if there is no voltage at one of the terminals, a good fuse won't matter.

I believe the voltage for those circuits, is switched ignition voltage. I believe the circuit goes hot with the key in the on or acc position. I can't say right now, if the ignition switch is faulty? If you put the key in the on position and wiggle-it a little, does the circuit go hot?

Their is no voltage coming into the fuses. I wiggled the key but still got no power in any of the bad items. The key is very old and worn and slides in and out of the ignition in the on position. Would this make any difference. The dash lights, dome lights, map lights, gas light, seat belt and emergency break light all work. Fuses 1 - 5 do not work but the rest are hot. Thanks for your help

I don't have a wiring diagram on this fuse block. You may have to look at the wires going to the back of the fuse block, the feed circuit going to the problem fuse, is the one to look at. If nothing else, you can track the feed circuit. If the feed wire is the same color at the ignition switch, then you can check for voltage at that same wire at the switch? Just make sure you have the same wire.

The fuse block wont come out I dont't think. I took out the two screws that I cold see and it made it very loose but it wouldn't com out. I took the windshield washer fluid tank out and looked at the wires where they go through the fire wall, but they all looked good. None were worn or bare so it isn't grounding out there. I will take another look at the fuse box and see if their is a way I can take it out and look at the back of it. Thanks for the help.

Don't break anything trying to get it out. I just thought you could see the color of the wire and backtrack it. My wiring diagrams just don't show it for the fuse box. Your local autostore may have a manual with diagrams for your vehicle, maybe they will let you look at it with or without buying the manual. Some places will let you look, you don't have to buy it. You can do a web search for (jeep forums) some of those owners may have good diagrams for the ignition switch and fuse box, I don't.

There are a couple of web sites, you can subscribe to, it will cost a little. They have all kinds of wiring diagrams. The only one I can think of right now is alldata, there are others. If the county you live in, has a large local library, they may have (Mitchel On Demand), they have wiring diagrams, that info may be free for county residents and property owners? In my area, to look at MOD through the library system, you have to go to the library. The EBSCOHOST wiring diagrams may be free, but I don't think they have the information you need? I've never looked at (Mitchel On Demand), I don't know what kind of wiring diagrams they have? The ebscohost database and autozone have the same wiring diagrams for your vehicle, I didn't see a wiring diagram for the fuse box, maybe I missed it?

dude i had the same exact problem with my 89 cherokee its the ignition switch down in the steering collum its like a 13 dollar part really easy fix
