Shocks

Im looking to level the front of my 05 Silverado about 2 or 2 1/2 inchs. Should I replace the shocks? And if so where is a good place to find Rancho shocks that will work for this. Thanks.

I had a 98 ram 1500 and replaced the factory shocks with rancho rsx for about $50 each and could tell no difference at all. I had about 150K on the original shocks. Unless you are doing desert prerunning, you migh want to look at some cheaper shocks. I'm not saying rancho shocks are not good, the 5000's on my old CJ7 probably saved me some chipped teeth, but that was high speed rough stuff.

Shocks alone will not change the height of the vehicle unless they are coil over or air shocks. You might install a spring with an added coil or possibly springs from the same size truck that has a larger/heavier engine. It will be sprung to support the heavier weight engine. I despise coil spacers. They can shift and also pop out if you hit a hard bump.

coil springs??? not here.

you can adjust the torsion bars to increase the front height.. but not too much as the ride will not be smooth.. i adjusted my vehicle after 20,000mi ...you may want to have alignment corrected after this..

the shocks i replaced from oem after 90,ooomi . i got from shock warehouse .. bilsteins and they are very close to oem on ride so i was happy..i don't use for off roading so these my not be your choice..good luck.

It is four wheel drive so it has torsion bars. You can buy keys but the only problem I have with those is they are basically maxing out your suspension. When you use keys it puts stress on the sterring box, relay arms, tie rods, stablinks and axles. So they only way to do it right would be to buy a kit that drops all of that to relieve stress like skyjacker. About $1300 for 3" and $1600 for 4".

I have turned up my torsion bars, what I was actually asking about was getting a little bit longer shock in case I turned them up to far and started bottoming out the shocks. But so far It doesnt seem to be doing that. Thanks for all the replies.

because you increased the hieght , the wheel alignment will result in too much toe... this means the outer edges of your front tires will get worn down... this will increase drag and reduce mpg also..
