2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Brake job

Hello,

My sister wants me to change the Brakes on her 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have never worked on A Jeep before but have done many break jobs. Does anyone have any warnings they could give me before I start.

Thanks

Don't let the calipers hang by the brake lines while you change or inspect the pads.

Does the 2000 model have all disk brakes? I've worked on a few disk brakes and they're all similar - just be sure to use the anti-squeal high-temp lube on the back side of the pads (where it contacts the caliper). It's pretty straight-forward. My '94 has drum brakes on the rear, which are a bit trickier, but not too bad if you have a Haynes manual with the step-by-step guide.

I don't know if it changed for the next year, but my 1999 needed an off-size hex wrench to remove the caliper. Be aware if this just in case.

Being a 2000, everything is probably metric. Should be able to get any tools you need at local auto parts store. If you have rear disc, you may need a special tool to return the caliper piston back to start point as they typically ratchet out instead of simple fluid push.
