ok...i'm getting a lot of mixed emotions here at the forum about people being challenged to a race......i don't get it....from what i've heard....the "proper" way to challenge someone to a race is to look their direction and rev your engine......in a lot of the threads i've read, people diss them and laugh at them b/c they're reving their engines and wanting to race......i think it's childish to laugh and then come back to the forum and brag about how this guy reved his engine in his "riced out" honda.....i only use honda b/c it seem like we're the only ones that want to race and will put ourselves out there, win or lose......but enough about that.......what's the deal?? obviously you accept the challenge and race them either win or lose......it kinda sux that when people go looking for a race that their fellow racers are too arrogant to race them or laugh in thier race......if you want to race then do it....if you don't, then decline.......i have yet to challenge anyone b/c i know my car isn't up to par yet......but when the time comes....i'll probably challenge someone who "looks" like they'd accept a race.....but the point of my rant is i really don't find it amusing how people laugh or make fun of someone who's looking for a race...mabey it's something that's apart of the whole racing scene......hmmmmm.....oh well, guess i gotta deal with it

We're not laughing b/c it's HONDA, we're laughing b/c it's some snot-nosed lil prick with Altezzas on a dark-bodied Civic DX and a NOS sticker. His idea of a "mod" is his fire extinguisher on the passenger A-pillar, which would be better used on a Ford.

Wanna know the hardest laugh I've ever gotten out of a Honda??? Electron Blue Civic Si. Seems normal enough. No signs of TF&TF syndrome... REVS AT ME ON MY MOTORCYCLE!!!!!!! ha... hahaahahahhaha. Good luck sweetheart!

saturntangerine, I agree, but theres other reasons why we laugh. I laugh when I see a HUGE wing on the back of the car like it looks good or even helps with anything, besides weighing it down. I also laugh at the millions of stickers all over the car(or the 2 big ones on each side that say like CIVIC or DRAGON)come on now, how ignorant can you be to think that it looks good like that. And not to be too biased here, but the sound. It drives me insane:bloated: It sounds like I've started up my gas powered weed-eater. I don't only feel this way about Honda's but when I see something that is just a horror to look at, I will laugh whether it is a truck or car, japanese or american made.

all i have to say for all you out there. I do rev sometimes but only at my buddies i dont usually go lookin for trouble. If someone revs at me i shoot one back and go for it, who cares win or loose its for fun untill you get into money bets. And one more thing, do not under-estimate the so called "Rice" I raced my buddy in his 92 hatch and he has altezzas on a dark body and he kissed my ass good bye. There is something i learned from going to all the import shows and meets and races and that is "TO EACH HIS OWN" and i think it is true.

i generally frown upon street racing as a whole. if anyone ever revs at me (although it's doubtful someone would want to challenge my POS), i will ALWAYS decline. racing is for the track, not for the streets.

Street racing is definately something dangerous, it could be fine but there are too many dumb people who can't drive(i.e. don't look and pull out in front of a race.)Here in Houston everyone use to(may still but I don't know)race off of Rankin Rd. It was fine for the longest time, no stupid people, everyone got along with each other and just hung out and had fun.(I'm not being racist I'm just stating what happened)Then all the Mexican gangsters started showing up and starting fights and I dont know how many times I saw guns get pulled. People are so stupid. If it wasn't for all of these "losers" who think they're cool cuz they smoke weed in public and carry guns then things would have been fine. This is when all the bad drivers started coming out. I've also seen a girl get hit by a car and rumor has it she died but I also heard she was parallized so who knows. When and if you race or watch the races, just remember where you are standing if you can park and stand behind the starting line its a lot safer. Oh and stay out of the street while they are racing.

I thought you said some guy revved at you and you blew him off in the Tempest or something.

Honestly Brian, I'd pay to see you race a Honda. With 185 lb/ft. of torque you could tear him a new one.

you're right derek. my bad. it was 1:30am on a road halfway between here and Brampton. we were at a stop-light and i thought i was the only person on the road, and then this homo pulls up beside me. if you looked up rice in the dictionary, a picture of this guys car would be beside it. '93 Civic hatch, lowered on Canadian Tire Motegi rims, ugly body kit that didn't even fit right in places, one of those curvy ugly wings on the roof (like the civics in F&F had), altezza's, fart tip, clear side markers, clear turn signals, EVERYTHING. he was holding his steering wheel at 12 o'clock, straight arm with his left hand, in that oh-so typical driving fasion. he revved and i just looked at him and shook my head laughing. as the light turned he "launched" and beat me to the next light (i wasn't even trying). when i pulled up beside him, he revved AGAIN, so this time i decided to shut the little bastard up. light turned and i mashed the throttle, spinning the fronts for a few seconds. he got a start on me but i hauled past him and laughed the whole way home. you know you're a poser when your "phat ryde" get's beaten by a 12 year old automatic Pontiac family car with 337,000kms on it.

i would never do it in the middle of a busy road or on a highway or anything like that though, like some idiots that i've seen/heard of. the only reason i raced this one time was because it was so early in the morning, and NO-ONE else was on the road. if there had been even one more car besides me and him, i wouldn't have done it. it's not worth it.

You do realize that even at 50+ mpg, Premium gasoline is incredibly pricey... Especially 94 octane, right??? I have 3/4 the horsepower, 1/8 the weight, and tires that were MADE to GO. Why waste my time and money (should I get caught with "competitive driving")??? No. I laugh. Hard. Point, sometimes.

They people who get laughed at are the 16-17 barely had thier licenses and threw some stickers and a muffler on thier car. Me and all my friends who have serious don't play cars all are holding on to our licenses by a thread. Why? cuz we were stupid and raced you idiot's. Now we just are smart emough to laugh at you and not bother. I'm not agianst street racing but I try to keeping to the track. But even in the position I'm in, I will race on the street if the person is a challenge to me. But I'll be damed if I'm gonna waste gas, tire rubber, energy or my license on some punk with a civic. If you have a bad-ass car, you know how to tell another bad-ass car import domestic whatever. We don't laugh at them, if we not feeling like racing is worth it that night we tell em striaght up.
By pulling up to us in your stock Civic with a CIA and reving it your disrespecting us and the work we put into our cars. So laughing at you is the disrespect you get back.

PS I know Civic can be fast I have seen them at the track. I was just saying that cause it seems to be the popular answer

Classic answer Ringo.

It never ceases to amaze me how many silly little boys are just desperate to show off how fast they can get away at a set of traffic lights. For those who don't know,I drive a bog standard 2 litre diesel saloon. When I take it into the city on a Friday or Saturday night,it's embarassing the number of spotty-faced little twats who will try to make every set of traffic lights a drag race.Even when Ihave the whole family in the car, they have to prove themselves by getting to the next set of lights before me.

I'M LIKE....hey,this is a clapped out, fully laden, diesel powered, bog standard, untuned family taxi.If you feel that the only way to confirm that your car goes faster is to drag off against me in a crowded shopping street, you must be really really stupid and incredibly insecure.Let me know when the novelty of car ownership wears off,and I might treat you with something less than utter scorn.

Nothing pissed me off back in NZ more than a silly "Fly boy" IN a Corolla FX or Honda Civic Si starts revving and spinning the tyres at the lightsespeciallly when they had stupid graphics and dumb-assed wheels. The funny thing was I was in a V6 French Luxury saloon- do I look like I want to race??? I always took them easily if I did decide to race them- just to show them how stupid they are. My car was for cruising- not racing  Itallian drivers have yet to catch onto "rice" so I'm pretty lucky I guess :D

Jimmy and Naki had it right on the money about NZ. Just yesterday I was stopped at a roundabout (circular intersection?) waiting for an opening. Now, there's quite a few cars coming through so I'm still waiting. This moron in his FX-GT shitbox (who, I might add,was trying to look just like Eminem) starts revving his engine like he's about to jump. I mean, WHAT THE FUCK?! He's sitting behind a car, does he think revving his engine is going to make me think he's cool or make me move out into the traffic when there clearly isn't any space? HELL NO.

I have a friend who, when one of these idiots speeds past down a 50m road or whatever (ie one where theres almost no opportunity to reach a decent speed) with his engine redlining, will simply point at him, straight faced like a teacher, and say "He has a small penis." Hilarity ensues..

I'm am setting here watching the 12 hr.s of Sebring, I am a huge sports car racing fan. I understand fully why these cars are running huge wings, diffusers, and front winglets. However, I have never understood why front wheel drive cars that are so called "drag racers" or "street racers" (which fronm what I can see is nothing more than drag racing on a public street) require those huge rear wings. The added down force that would increase traction on say a rear wheel drive car would do the opposite on a front wheel drive car, correct?? Now if you were road racing the car I would completely understand.

Someone please enlighten me!!!!

Oh, and while I am asking questions, can someone tell me why import car fans by aftermarket body work and slap it on without painting it?????

It make the car look worst than it would with painted plastic and tells me that you are not dedicated to what you supposedly love by taking shortcuts.

it's the new trend. I've seen this BS everywhere. They do it b/c they can do burnouts on their stock Steel wheels and not destroy their $200/tire performance tires, or their wheels should they pop a tire in the process. Granted, it's smart to do for a burnout contest, but street, GET A GRIP!!!! These are kids who drive around on a street w/at 25mph limit, and they think they are going to use that HOW??? Not to mention that it's probably not so hot on their suspension or alignment.

or it could also be the fact that they don't have enough cash to buy a whole set of 4...i've seen it where people will buy the rims one at a time and sort of do a pattern thing when it gets to around 2 rims....there's a pizza delivery guy in my town who has a white civic dx 4dr sedan...it has only 2 17's...one is the front left, the other is the rear right...the other wheels...stock

I think it all depends on the moment, and on the drivers. I wouldn't pull up next to a grey haired dude in a ragtop Vette and just start rumbling my motor. If I DID want to try and bag this C5 I'd talk to the guy first, "Eh bud, thats a really sweet ride. Must be faaast?", then give him like a goofy macho look, rub my hands together, and point forward. If the guy smiles(which he would when you do it like that) and shakes his head no, then I'd give him a shrug (ah?), and go about cruisin (MAYBE give him just a little rumble to get him to laugh or possibly reconsider). If you sit there rev'n away in some situations you're just gonna look like a stupid asshole with no class.

Now, If I'm pulling up to a Mustang or LS1 F-Body and see a young dude in the car looking backwards at me with wide open eyes waiting for me to hit the line, well then its pretty obvious whats gonna happen. To be honest I only ever get into races with other muscle/pony cars, and seldom bother with imports. Not that there's not a lot of fast rice rods out there or that I can't handle losing, I just can't relate to too many of these drivers(unless they my buds). First of all, I always like to make friendly eye contact with whoever I'm going to race - its just for FUN! right? Some of these little punks pull up next to me in their tiny fart cars, looking straight ahead with this hard guy death stare, revin away their tiny little puss-boy motors, THEN glare at me like "What the fuck are you lookin at?" How could you not laugh at this?!?

Most of the time I Do race a little import its to get away from the bad exhaust tone (just my opinion, no disrespect), but to each his own.

I don't think guys with V8 muscle/pony cars seem to mind engine reving much when it comes from another hot rod cause they love the sound anyways and like to hear anytime another guy lets his cubic inches do the talking. :ylsuper

Its all about proper etiquette and common sense.

I always thought it was to nose up to the line a little bit. I don't get why people pull halfway out into the intersection though, when they want to race. Do they need that much of a head start?

It's simple. They're idiots. It's a prerrequisite for street racing.People who are serious about racing have the basic common sense to take it to the track,or a quiet strip of industrial park.Staging up at city intersections is for retards with tiny dicks and immature attitudes.

Yea.. right.. tell that to the local law enforcement..

What is so wrong with a quiet strip of road in front of an intersection? Or an open stretch of freeway? (aside from the obvious fact that it's against the law) You obviously can't race in traffic, so, yes, by all rules of common sense, you are stupid if you try. I really don't understand everyone's problem with building your car up and testing it against the next guy though. Sorry if I don't want to wait for saturday and dish out $20 of my money for two trips down a quarter mile piece of asphalt when I can do it where I'm at for free. That $20 is MUCH more than the 1/16th gallon of gas I might have used to race the guy in the next lane over, and is better off being put into my car. The day they open a free racetrack is the day I will race on one. Either that, or the day I get a good job, but even then, I'll still pull on people on the street.

I don't rev on people. I don't go around looking for races. I know what places are appropriate to open up my car, and what places aren't. I know that my penis is of normal size. I know that I am responsible. And I know there are a ton of little 16 year old ricers out there with no driving experience that give the rest of us a bad name.

that snippet right there should be all the proof you need. i don't care if you know where and when to open up on people, illegal is still illegal, and even if you say to the cop that "no-one else was on the road at the time! i'm being safe!" he'll just point at the speed-limit sign, and slap a ticket on your hand.

That's the chance I take then.. That's harm to me, and nobody else. It's usually only a race to the speed limit anyway, unless I'm sure no cops are around and it's early in the morning or some other circumstance. The point is, I dont have the means to waste money to go race on a track. If I did, I would. If the track was free/cheap, I would.

Why do you drink alcohol? For the feeling of it right? You can't really say to quench your thirst, because there is water for that. Drinking has been proven hazardous to your health if not done in moderation. If you get uncontrollably drunk, you could trip, and knock over a bookcase onto someone's neck. It's the same thing with racing on the street. You do it for the feeling. It's hazardous to your wallet if not done in moderation, and if not done carefully, you could hurt someone. These both might be two evils, but both of them sure feel good. Only thing is: I know I wont do either if the circumstances aren't good.
