'99 Camaro random electrical issue

My radio randomly powers on and off while driving. Sometimes it will be off for several minutes (10 - 15) then power back on without me pushing a button on it or anything. I've recently put a brand new battery in the car but still have the same problem. This issue started around the same time my gas gage stopped working and has continued for several months.

I would check the ground wire, could be loose. If I were u I would take out the radio and check the wires leading to the radio. U might just have a faulty radio...is it an aftermarket radio u have installed?

It is aftermarket, but purchased brand new from Best Buy. I had another one in there before that was doing the exact same thing, so I took it out and put in the new one (different brand, purchased brand new) and have had the same issue.

I would have to look at the schematic to get a better idea of how those two circuits are related...I'll try to do some research. The only thing I can think about off the top of my head is that the bose units used to have an amplifier relay wired into the system and if that is failing it would turn off the speakers....an on/ off effect...replace it if you have one...let us know what happened..

If slamming the driver's door makes the radio come back on, see the latest 2000 Firebird post. Hope it helps.
