Today was the third autocross of the 08 season. I was all over the place, damn tires are too hard, brakes are too soft and my rear camber is off. The car was sliding left and right, the track guys where calling me Rhys Millen!

I still did well enough. a tad faster then the Corvettes and the mustangs in my class. they ran an avarge of 50 and I was running 46 seconds. I hit a shyt load of cones though so my end time was about 53.

so now Im really geared towards modding the car with some serious suspension work. Koni sport springs and adjustable shocks, Hotch sway-bars, pedders bushings and stoptech brakes. about 4 grand all together but it will be smoking fast after this.

Now I need a project code-name....how about "Combat Wombat"?
no, no......Rob already took that.....
OHH, "Dasterdly Dingo"!

Some of my car-club bros went too. A black 06 Eclipse GT and a Stang 4.6GT. were trying to start and autocross racing division withing the club, kinda like an ellite within the corps.

I'll upload vids or pics as soon as they become available.

New project name huh?

"Project: Geared Goat"

Mountain Goat is perfectly fine for your project name.

Have you ever seen them guys climb? They're quick on their feet... all kinds of traction up shitty terrain and turn and stop on a dime.

... Plus, with your temper it's also fitting... if some dude makes a move on your woman you can just headbutt them like a Ram does another male during mating season. ;)

Mountain Goat sounds good for a hill climb car. Can't use Ram, because thats taken up by Dodge. You touch my Combat Wombat and I'll spank you Night Stalker! Give me a bit...I'll see what I can come up with for a good project name.

Sounds like you got your work cut out for you Mushman! I went and watched an autocross yesterday, the car that ran the fastest time was a C6 Z06, followed by a modded EVO and many STi's and wrx's. It was cool to watch

La Cabra de Cono or the Fiesty Goat.

Dethgoat. GTfO. Rambuncious Roo.

Those are my ideas, take them or leave them. But that will be one hell of a car after the project is done, you should be killing anything else in your class, barring another cone killing spree like you did this time.

La Cabra de Cono
SOLD!

La Cabra de Cono it is. Just ordered the bushings I'll be needing. Should be here in a few days.
I got some bad ass track-day brake pads from tirerack, now I gotta wait till next pay day and I'll order the rotors and bolts I'll need for stage 1.

The tires I got on right now are excellent for cone killing. Yokahama's AVS-ES100s.
I couldnt figure out why last time my car did so well and this time I was slaiding all over the place. Turns out I might of over inflated the tires. usually you want about 40-41 psi so the side wall wont flex. the max preassure on the AVS is 40psi. so they were too stiff and I lost hella grip cause of it.

next time i'll try a 38/38 split and work from there.

Dude I dunno, maybe im wrong but I just cant give props to anyone driving an Evo or STI at these events. I love those cars but autocrossing in them is too easy. its like having training wheels on. the Evo has a freaking yaw-active computer and the STI has that bad ass electronis Dif split torque limiter. all that fancy stability junk (which you cant ever turn off, its always active) and AWD make a real easy to drive car. its like the ATTESA system on the GT-R. It takes all the driver error away and makes even a two left foot driver like me look like the Stig!

I have to agree that it takes a lot of the skill out of the equation, but it does look really cool seeing some of them break all 4 loose while still going forward. The rwd cars are more entertaining though because thats how you can really tell how good of drivers some of those people are

just cuz it has yaw control doesn't mean it takes no talent to get into the corners, just like it doesn't take any talent for a big blocked chevy to make torque. You definitely still have to guide the car (a little) and i sat in an evo, and honestly it's not a sport car feel sitting there. still feels like a sedan. Definitely a disadvantage when you aren't all cozied up in the cockpit.

Although i understand where you are coming from.

Good luck with the autocross setup, how is the heel toe driving coming anyway? takes some talent getting those rev's matched in the middle of a corner.

The reason I didnt buy an evo was cause of how easy to drive it is. Ive been dreaming about evos since I was 14. my uncle Steven lives in Monaco and he invited us over to see the 94 WRC. I love Evos but when I test drove one here it was just too friendly, my mom even drove it.
As bad ass as they are you cant tell me its not an easy car to throw around. even if it feels like a sedan that fact that you can toss that sucker around without worry is just a killjoy. I like a car that keeps you on edge, just barely walking that razor's edge.

Im not badmouthing them. I bow down to thier superiority over my car anyday. Im just saying it takes more skill to autoX the same lap time in a GTO then it does an Evo or STI.

Ive never had a problem with heal and toe, why do you ask?

i'm new to it, it scares me. I'm not great at it, but i hardly think that the 3rd gen is setup for heel-toe.

I rode with one guy here in a Galant VR4 that could heel-toe. good lord, that man took a 90 degree right turn at 45-50 and it stuck, and i never felt him down shift, which says something with an unsprung 6puck clutch.

Autocross in the GTO has to be pretty badass. Nothing like torque.

you shouldnt find a need to heel and toe in an autocross since you basically stay in one gear the whole way. Musashi, one of these days you gotta go to the ft. myers runs. Over a 1 mile course and evo's get laughed at over there. Last time I had gone an S2000 destroyed everyone.

S2k is one hell of an autoX car. I still want to watch someone in a 911 GT3 rip open a track. Evos and STis do have that sedan type feel. They need to be more performance oriented on the interior to so you FEEL like you can run a low 13 1/4 mile stock. But nothing would be better than a GTO or a Z06 type car kick the shit out of the little zippy cars. RWD takes some serious talent in autoX when you are putting down 300hp.

laughed at? Id punch a redneck hillbilly out if i ever went to Ft. Meyers then, you know how much I like evos!

try more like 450hp! well 380 if your talking about whp.
but yes, its like trying to run as fast as possible while barefoot in an ice rink.

Next autoX is 2 weeks at Moroso. Its gonna be held on the go-kart track so thats gonna be interesting. this year they will also be doing some night time events which play hell on your depth perception.....hmmmmm, perhaps the GTO needs a light pod as part of the mod list.

I was including LS1s in that category! haha i can see it now... The GTO all decked out with suspension mods, with a light pod from a freakin Peterbilt on the roof. :) what would you get as a light pod for that thing? But night autocross doesnt strike me as something I would want to do, especially if the track is lit by your standard street lights since they cast an orange light which would be fantastic for seeing the orange cones. Would be interesting to watch though.

i need a tall geekey guy with glasses who pounds equation after equation onto his computer an makes up simulations of every course.

a fat old guy who knows alot about cars and speaks in ridles

a hawt mechanic girl

and a twirpy best friend who never gets laid.

Ding's a punk ass. The only reason he took over the field from Clark is because Clark got old. Willem Dafoe as John Clark FTMFW. And all the Rainbow Six Vegas guys are punk asses too. Hell, in that game, Ding can't be more than forty five, and he's regulated to the command position. In the novel, even Clark's old ass still went gung ho. Fuck Chavez.

what the hell kind of a name is "ding" anyways? sounds like some kind of a sexual innuendo if you ask me.

Yeah the fresh team means you can mold them to your evil ways and dispose of them how you see fit when they fail. Since Cassies beat me to internet heckler, can I be the guy you give all of the flunkies to who you dont want anymore so I can eat them?

Plus, when you DO do poorly, it gives you someone else to pit the blame on instead of inanimate objects like your stiff tires.

hmm, interesting proposal.
Okay Rob you can be the misterious guy in the dark shadowy room whom I report to at the end of every episode and no one really knows who he is or what his role is, just that the baddest of the bad guys reports to him directly.

MZR, you can be the crazy black market dealer who always wears shades and no one ever sees his eyes. hes the dude that makes people disapear and even the cops dont have a file on him.

Stiggie can be the elder who stands on top of the hill and oversees all the battles. his the dude in the white robe with the staff who you know later on will become some kind of mentor but for now he's just like watching and waiting.

Chique is the samurai dude with the eye-patch on the horse who walks past the battle field after the battle has ended. he's that character who is like looking for something or someone and always arrives like just after the battle and walks slowly past the corpses (the fallen cones). you know that whatever the dude is looking for when he finds it all hell will break loose.

Gotian is the old man who keeps on giving you advise but no one ever sees him, like the abnauctious old guy in Afro Samurai.

Sleeper_awd is the gold fish in the staff.
sorry dude, you need to get a better casting agent!

I already got all the bushings I ordered. got them sitting on my work bench waiting for the bolt kit to install em.
I had the new rear camber plates installed last thursday and the cornering is SICK! I had them adjust the rear camber out just a tad to compensate for the wieght of the car on hard corners. its enough to feel without eating away at my tires life spam. once the sway bars arrive it will be out of this world

New rotors are on thier way, just ordered them yesterday.

Id say in a month or so stage 1 will be done.
