Anyone have an exploded view of the front struts? I exploded a pair of struts from a 97 with on 76 00km. (I got a whole front end off that car actually).

Also, can a three jaw puller be used in place of a spring compressor?

No, But you can rent a strut spring compressor at Autozone or advanced auto parts------Take it back (Un-Damaged) and they give you a full refund.

Here's the only pics I have of a 89-94 Front strut system, Hope it helps?

Struts aren't hard to change out. One tip is to loosen the strut nut (do not remove!) at the top of the strut before anything else and while the tire is still on the ground. It makes removing the nut easier once you compress the spring. Also remove and work on only one at a time so you have one available for reference.

In addition to the professional quality advice given already, I'd just like to add: Have respect for a compressed coil spring. Metros have a light spring compared to other vehicles, but it still stores enough energy to maim, dismember and kill. I don't mean to intimidate, just use caution and good judgement. IE don't point the thing at yourself.

Thanks for the diagrams. Mine is a 95, but I'm pretty sure it's basically the same beast. I learned at the yard how much force the struts release with. I tried holding on to the strut while I removed the nut. I didn't get hurt, but it wouldn't have been hard for that to happen.

Fortunately I have the luxury of a second metro to reference back to should I get lost, so I can do both at the same time.

Have you priced "Quick Struts" yet? Those are complete units that replace everything and saves you from a bunch of hassle and possible injury.
