Direct Shifting Gearbox!

The Direct Shifting Gearbox (DSG). An Audi product soon to be made by Volks Wagen but anyway. I was wondering if anyone knew if this type of Gearbox is available for sale or i would have to rip it out of an Audi TT Coupe. But thing is would it just go and fit in any car? So basically i want to know is if this is product is sold by anyone else and how much it would be and is it compatible to any car(or if by chance just possibly a '94 - '00 Integras.
(If you dont know what the purpose of the DSG is well then here ya go. It is a gear box that enables you to go through gears without a Clutch Pedal! The substitute for the Clutch is on the shifter itself. When you apply pressure to top of Shift Knob your pushing in the clutch. Making shifting time go bye bye.)

Isn't this the same thing as what's in the M3, and a couple other cars already?
Yes I know this isn't the same as the "whatever"-atic's in most cars now(i.e. RSX), in which the car is an automatic, but can be set so when you push up on the shifter, shift up, pull, shift down. This is probably like the one in the M3 in which you pull to shift up, push to downshift.

A bunch of the new KIA's are like that. It's an auto, but the shifter slides to the side, and it becomes a manual-ish. Push or pull to shift type.

I don't htink the KIA's have the same thing, its probably the same system as RSX, but not like the M3, and probably not like what's going to be in the VW. Right now, it is only in more expensive cars. I think it was first used in F1's though.

there used to be semi automatic vw beetles back in the day. my mom was telling me about hers. basically it was a 4 or 5 speed and when you moved the stick it would take yo ass outa gear. wierd stuff. bad design and didnt catch on. her drunk friend was playing wiht it one time and she got pulled over for drunk driving and they asked him to drive and she was like NOOOOOOOO. but anyway i truly doubt the VAG tranny will work in your teg they are two very different systems...

I would think that DSGs are for smoother gear transitions and faster shifts, not just for automatic clutch actuation. They have boxes for that already - BMW's SMG, Ferrari's Selespeed, Toyota's (forget the name), etc.

i found out more about Semi-Automatic GearShift and i cant find anywhere i can find info on it how to mod my car so that it will work. Nor can i fin anywhere to buy it. I want one so bad its not even funny.
i agree w/ GTi-VR6_A3 that the VW tranny may not work but possibly a different manufacturer possibly but i doubt it. if id ont find one thanks for your help anyway and i guess ill just have to Go with the dredded Pedal.

trust me unless you go with one of the euro ones its not worth it. and those are still iffy. toyota's pretty much sux. my friend has a cleica gt-s with the sprt shift. neat idea but really its crap for racing. id rather have the stick.

Sounds like a dog-engagement box, a SMG (M3) or a semi-automatic (like the plethora of 4 door sedans out there).
I really doubt they'd use a dog-box though. Loud and too much maintenance.

In F1 they use electrohydraulic controlled sequential gearboxes. They should not be compared with the "fake sequential" shit most carmanufacturers now are releasing.
Even Ferrari has a type of "fake sequential" in the 360 Modena, and guess what, most racers replace this system with the traditional stick simply because it's faster and better!
Saab made a system that allowed gearshifting without to use the clutch for about 10 years ago. This system only caused a lot of problems and longer shifing times.
Porsche had however a more serious system used by Audi in rally under the eighties, this system was called PDK (Porsche Doppel Kopplung). However most of this type of racing stuff has stayed in racing cars, probably because they are simply not suited for standard cars.
If you want a real fast shifting gearbox, buy a used Xtrac or Hewland racing gearbox. Usually they cost from around $5000 and this is the real deal. One downside is that this type of gearboxes usually makes a lot of noise when driving with them.

vw beetles had a semi automatic gear box back in the 70's as well. before saab i believe. things was stupid. my mom had one she said it was way too easy ot come out of gear.

No, not at all. DSGs are standard transmissions split in two parts, each with a clutch; one clutch handles 1st, 3rd, and 5th gear, and the other handles the other gears (obviously). When using any given gear, the other set of gears predict what gear you'll select next and so make the transition smoother. Both sets of gears output to the same shaft.
