95 escort oil pan

My sons 1995 escort has a hairline crack on the bottom of the oil pan that leaks oil.
Two Questions if I may!
1. Is their any product than can be placed over this crack that will stop the leak?
2. How difficult a job to replace the oil pan !

Clean the pan very well and apply JB Weld. It will work like a charm. Try and smoosh it into the crack real good.

Try some JB Weld. It is a two-part epoxy and it will fix just about anything; you can find it in most hardware stores. Don't buy the quick setting version; it's not as strong as the original stuff. You will need to drain the oil and let it sit (like overnight) to thoroughly drain the pan; you may have a problem trying to get this stuff to work if there is a constant seep of oil coming out the crack. Thoroughly clean the crack and the area around it; use carb cleaner or brake cleaner ...you basically want the area as dirt and oil free as possible. Get some coarse sand paper and rough up the area around the crack then clean it again with the carb or brake cleaner and make sure its dry. Mix up the JB Weld and apply it to the crack, generously overlapping the surrounding area. The stuff will begin to set up fairly quickly but you do have a few minutes of working time. Let it sit overnight to thoroughly dry.

Hope this works 'cause I don't think you want to mess with dropping the pan.

I third the notion. Use JB Weld. I cracked an oil pan once and used JB to fix it. Never leaked a drop. Clean it real good so there is no oil residue.

jb weld rocks! I currently have a jb weld repair on my thermostat housing and it's held great for about six months, so i know t will work on an oil pan.

I had someone bring me this old Trans Am years ago that did not want to spend ONE CENT! on it. (I had done work for him or he was referred..can't remember)The thing was DRIPPING OIL. Rotted pan. Needed a pan. Wanted a " right now fix". LOl..didn't want to even drain the oil. I offered him a zero charge zero chance of it working guarantee he'd lose the oil. and the motor.

I soaked a rag in lacquer thinner to clean the pan area and give the silicone some bite. That in one hand.
In the other hand I put about half a handfull HAHA of silicone sealer.

In with the 2 handed surgery. Cleaned the pan/..right..as the oil was dripping out. GOBBED on the silicone. The leak stopped. Added some more silicone and smoothed it out. I couldn't believe it worked. Lasted just about forever too.

The cv boot started leaking on my 93 Escort. I posted about it here. Figgered seeing as how I was gonna have to pull the shaft anyway..TRY the silicone. Regular silicone did not work. Permatex automotive did. Lasted at least 1 1/2 yrs..till I got rid of the car.

How could you do a repair without duct tape?!
I imagine a sheet of fiberglass gooped in with the silicone would have made your oil pan patch even more durable maybe? :D

also you may want to drill a small hole on both ends of the crack to keep it from spreading.
