I recently purchased a 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee and my remote keyless entry transmitter is broken. I'd like to avoid paying $150 for another transmitter, but when I unlock my driver side door with the key, the alarm goes off and can only be stopped by turning on the engine.
I have consulted the manual, but have not had success finding a solution. Can anyone suggest how I might disarm the system and still open my door with the key?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Joy

Hi Joy, and Welcome to AF.
I'm moving this for you to the Grand Cherokee forum...you'll probably get a better response.
Sorry I don't have a solution for you.

This is a not too uncommon problem with early model year Grand Cherokees.
The problem is faulty drivers door electronics. You can disarm the alarm before opening the drivers door by first unlocking the rear hatch as a temporary measure.
You should be able to find a remote for under $100.00.

You can disarm alarm system by unlocking drivers side door. The reason it is setting off is probably you have a bad ground to the door.
The way to permanently disable the alarm system is to ground the purple wire inside your drivers door.
