You always hear things about the TT Supra (magazines and The Fast and the Furious) and the TT RX-7 (The Fast and the Furious), but you never really hear anything about the TT Z....why is that....they all were in the same era....seemed to have a similar goals and all....very similar in many ways.....but you never hear anything about Z's running 8sec 1/4 miles or having quad-digit WHP ratings. Are they harder to get power out of then I thought, or am I just missing something? Enlighten me. I love Z's and it's my goal to be able to show a Z06 some of my rear license plate for half what he paid for his....I think it's possible.

They are a bit harder to get hp figures from. As the popularity thing??? you got me maybe it would be easier to get hp from if there was more exposure for the Z.

Fast 300ZX...7.4 @ 182 mph w/1200RWHP
The 300ZX loses out to the RX7 and the Supra for 2 reasons each IMHO
RX7 has better looks and is lighter
Supra has more invincible engine (up to 1000 hp on stock internals w/proper tuning and managment) and better stock brakes (they are AMAZING)
but the 300ZX was the all around performer out of the 90's Japanese Supercar bunch...it had very very good lines/looks, powerful brakes, good acceleration, and not bad handling
If the Z32 weighed maybe like 2900 lbs and had the Brembos that come on the GT-R (like I THINK it should have) and made the internals like that of the RB26DETT...it would have been the GOD of the 90's!
Oh and pricing...hehe...needed to be a bit cheaper for it's time

Hmmm...looks wise.....RX7....Z.....Supra......all hatch backs (which is my favorite type of body style anyway) and look slightly similar to me. The RX7 is the tiny one....Supra is kinda little bit more bubbly-ish....but the Z....It's just.......sexy.....long and sleek....just a little more sexy looking to me. But, then again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right?
That's what I thought, too, about the engine. I don't really NEED nor WANT a quad-digit HP rating anyway...it's just a little TOO much. I always thought the brakes on the TT Z were amazing to begin with. All the cars have amazing brakes. PLUS, you can swap on GT-R breaks.
The Z's real downfall in my eyes.....it's weight. ~3500lbs. It's a heavy bitch. That kinda confuses me cuz it's not THAT big of a car. It weighs only 100 lbs less then a Camaro SS Convertible. Weight is fixable though, so it's no big deal.
The combination of adequate performance potential, BEAUTIFUL body, a very affordable price these days, and good general performance makes it for my dream car.
Thanks for the link, man.

My Z weighed 3940 Lbs. when I took it to the scale when I bought it. The lady at the state registeration said she had never seen a Nissan that weighed 4000 lbs.nI was shocked , too.
I think the clean (functional) lines of the Z just aren't what the younger guys want. They like the fins, wings, fake grills, and gills like on the 3000gt's. Being older, I like the fact that if it is not fuctional it's not there on the Z.
I really don't think 5% of the drivers out there can out drive the stock brakes on a Z. I thought it was very funny how many people opted for the track model of the 350 because of the brakes as low power as the car came with. RealiZing the weight should make it competitive with the T/T of old. Should, I said. The only time I wish I had better brakes is when the detector goes off solid and you are at 100. Nose dive time! I don't think the Brembo's would help then even.

4000 lbs is a lot for a car of it's size...where does the weight come from? Where'd you get your car, woosh. Got any pics? See...the whole age theory of yours has only one problem....I agree that it was designed mostly for older men when it came out....BUT I'M ONLY 19. Maybe I'm just weird. I LOVE the looks of the Z. I wish I could THANK them for not putting a big wing on it. That would have killed it. I love the later model turbo wings...the ones that are raised up an inch or so. I saw a z with a big "Exterminator" wing or what ever they're called (ricer wing) on it and it looked horrid.
When it comes to brakes, you could never have too much, ya know? Especially in a car that's capable of 150+ stock and 170+ with the mods I want. I think it'd be cool to be able to say "I have Skyline brakes on my car" anyway, so I'd probably opt for those.

I bet you don't even have pants with the crotch at the ankles either. There are exceptions to everything.
I guess the weight comes from a stiffer chassis and the 4 wheel steering. I really don't know.
As far as the brakes go, 90% of the public doesn't know what a Skyline is. i did not until one showed up here in town.
For pics. go to traderonline.com and enter Nissan, 300ZX, and advanced search enter yellow.

3900 lbs! In a TT...I dunno about that...curb weight for the Z was around 3200 lbs in the magazines...you are saying that on a scale it weighes 700 LBS MORE!
Checking the web...the TT weighes in between 3200-3400 lbs...
I think something is wrong w/the scale OR you forgot to subtract yourself from the equation

Wasn't in it at the time. This was a DOT scale so I think it was riight. Look at it this way, if they underestimated the HP may be they understated the weight also.

Ha...it's on autotrader.com. I frequent that site and had seen your car before. Very nice, man. I can settle the weight issue once and for all...I have an official dealer brochure (ebay....3 bucks...it's TOO cool, too. Pick one up if you can find one.) on the 1992 Z32.
Curb weight "from the horses mouth":
5-speed 2 seater: 3186...3219 with the T-tops.
5-speed 2+2: 3313
5-speed TT: 3474
Auto 2 Seater: 3247 all autos were T-tops.
Auto 2+2: 3342
Auto TT: 3508
There you have it.
Close enough, nissanspdr. I forgot I had that book. I keep it in a plastic bag in the bottom of my closet. It's just so cool...if a page got folded or torn, I think I'd have to kill something small.

Ok...here's the story.
I'm trying REALLY hard to get a Z32 TT. I need my mom's help in getting a loan for it, though. Her reasoning (which hasn't changed since I bought my 1986 2+2 nearly 3 years ago) is that she wants me to get something like a Kia or some shit. "I'll help you get something cheap, new, and dependable. I'm not going to help you get a car that's over 10 years old." is what she said. Ok...it is over 10 years old...so what....if you find one that's been taken care of well, it's just as good as new. She was trying to get me to buy a Colt or some shit when I was looking for a car before, when I bought my Z31. Obviously, I chose the Z. The past 3 years living (in, practically) with the car has been an absolute pleasure. How she could expect me to buy anything other then another Z is obsurd. My question is are the Z32's as generally reliable? In the 3 years I've had my car, I've spent MAYBE $400 in repairs. Is there any reason I shouldn't just disregard what she's saying just like I did before? I know they run hot, but I've never heard of them having any problems. Keep in mind...this is going to be my toy car...my baby....my "sunday cruise" car. I'm keeping the Z31 as a daily driver so the Z32 won't even get much wear.
P.S...my girlfriend referred to the Z32 as "pretty and cute" earlier...I was baffled by this. 2 words I would have NEVER used to describe the Z32. Just thought I'd share that little part.

leave it too the women to say something like that about a car that has the possibility to get over 1000 hp, heh, sad thing is cant argue with her cause she pretty damn right, the cars are sweet looking, go for it, find one that has been well taken care of and the people have all the documents for it and you'll be good to go, as reliability goes, from what i hear bout the tt's they are good to go, if you take care of them

agreed, i think the z is probably one of the best designs to ever be put out by a car manufacturer. the 90-96 models that is, i don't really like the new 350z yet, but i'm sure it'll grow on me.
