Theres a 1990 9C1 for sale in my area, the body and interior are in pretty rough condition but its got the 350 of course. i might go check it out if the price is right and make it a fixer-upper, or just as a doner and swap the engine out too for my 83. i'm sure this question has been asked before, but can i use the posi rear end from it as well with out modding anything? even if it doesnt pan out with this car just so i know for future refference

if you snag the rear end, you might as well get the front spindles as well so that the bolt pattern will be the same front and back.
the civvie caprices have a 5x4.75 bolt pattern, the 9c1's have 5x5.
the rear end should go right in and will most likely have a more performance gear in it.
i dont know what tranny you have, but since it hasnt been abused, id stick with it.
the engine from the 9c1 will be a 350, but most likely a lot of work to swap in because of the fuel injection.
if you buy the car however, it wont be as bad because all the parts you need will be right there.
since its the same body style, id see if you can get it for cheap and make yourself a frankenstein car.
then sell the 9c1 body with your engine for half of what you bought it for.
my 2 cents

Thats right i forgot that year and model were fuel injected too. i was thinking of doing what you mentioned though, make it a frankenstein cause im just interested in the posi rear end and the 5.7

You'll need the driveshaft if swapping from a 7.65 to 8.5 10 bolt.

can that connect up to the existing tranny i have? if not i can just use the tranny as well if its not beat

it should bolt right up.
i would stay away from the 9c1 tranny tho.
its not like they were built any different than the civvie cars were, but they were beat all to hell.
you could also pull the radiator off the 9c1 because it will be bigger, and take the engine oil cooler too.
if you take the gas tank off the 9c1 you wont have to worry about the fuel injection cause you will already have the pump.
the fuel lines should be a direct change over as well.
the computer will change easily.
it shouldnt be too bad if you are paitent and careful

thats what id do.
i had my chance at a 89 caprice 4dr doner with the same interior color, but with power seats and everything.
it was a few hundered too much at the time.

I would like to do the same swap into my 89 wagon.
What year donor would be best, I could also use the 200r4 trans i now have.
I saw a few later model 9c1's on autotrader.com in the la area that were not to pricey.
Sure would be nice to have a lt1 under the hood but I'm guessing that swap would be a bit more involved
Might be worth checking out..
Good luck with your project...

pull the 9c1 computer then.
i believe the 350 has a different chip
everything else should plug in
you might have to "make" a few things work, but idk
