I have a Canadian 2002 Honda Civic Si-G coupe(group option package) basically.. fully loaded. Got stuck in the snow yesterday.. may have rev'd a bit too high.. dunno. Anyways on my way to work the highways were ice covered, reduced traction yada yada. Going over an overpass my car rev'd real high.. and just wouldnt go into gear. Pulled over and tried D, D3, 2, R. Nothing. As soon as I it all happened my engine/emissions control light came on and now it stays on. Disconnected the battery and reconnected it.. light went off.. seemed to be ok for a good couple minutes when it slipped again. I watched it on my drive home.. going past 2-3K rpm it slips when it tries to shift into 3rd. I can get the car up to speed.. say 100 km/h but it will slip and rev up with no power being delivered. The engine sounds fine however I've noticed for a couple weeks a slight whine coming from the engine.. now after all this the whine has gotten louder but subsides when you put it into gear. Related? Also today I hopped in my car, started it up.. light still on. I put it into reverse let go of the brake.. let it come to an idle THEN it goes into gear.. same with putting it into drive.. I let it come to an idle and after a couple seconds it goes into gear.. that is the car starts to move. haha. Whats going on? I've asked 5 different people.. got 5 different answers. I'm a part time student and I certainly cannot afford a new transmission. I'm told a) transmission is shot b) solenoid c) torque converter d) water/snow/ice screwing around with the sensors/electronics e) 'limp mode' if there is such a thing. Could somebody maybe shed some light on the issue? I'm told it'll cost $130 JUST to get the code for the darn light!! :(

could this be the infamous "limp mode", faulty transmission control module? VTEC solenoid? water/snow damage?

Go go an auto parts store, they should read your code for free.

Took it to a Honda dealership today. They pulled the codes for free. Unfortunately.. I am sad to report the following codes have been pulled:
P0740 TC Clutch Failure
P0730 Incorrect Gear Ratio
in other words.. its shot.
