Door Handle : Lost Keys

Dear Forum Members:
I took my 1964 Beetle to the shop and my mechanic lost the keys. The locksmith made a key for the ignition, but could not make a key for driver-side door. The lost door key actually had a VW punch stamped into the key so you can put a ring through any part of the VW stamp, you can see through the VW symbol. I am out of town and can't remember if the door handle is original or after-market. Is there any special serial number or VW stamp on the inside of the door handle and lock itself? My mechanic says that the serial number on the lock does not match the serial number on the handle, I don't think he knows what he is talking about. I can't imagine that the lock button has been replaced in the exterior handle / lock mechanism.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Casey

He'll tell you what numbers are what, and can probably provide you a key, based on the tumbler number.
