This whining is engine speed related. It almost sounds like the air intake gets louder. It occurs while starting out and making it shift over 3k. The whining starts about 2600 and quites around abrupty around 2900. Any sugestions??

Tough to diagnose without hearing this, I would remove the serp belt and see if it does it, you can do this for a short time safely, that way you would confirm it is a belt driven accessory.

Already sprayed the belt tonight and no change. I wouldn't say it's coming from under the hood. When stopped, and rev the motor It sounds like it's coming from under the car. But only at for a brief second as the r's are coming up(2k). Maybe whining wasn't the best description.
Sort of like a alt. bearing and/or a clatter??? Crawled under and started tapping on shields...nothing. Tapped on the 1" pipe cross member (between the side frame rails) and got a tinny noise and traced that to the front right rotor shield. Got that stopped and tried driving it again. Still there.
Here's a thought. The garage said there was a small hole in the muffler last spring. Could the muffler be making this sound just at a certain rpm/exhaust flow?? This is driving me nuts. Sounds like a ricer with one of those cans hanging out the back. '02 with orig exhaust yet. 88k miles.
I tried it all gears and same sound so I hope it's not trans related.

Spraying the belt does not eliminate a bearing or pulley noise, to be sure remove the belt, again maybe some one familiar with this type of noise should listen to it for you.

Thanks for your help everyone. Nothing seems to try in though.
When I rev it up I hear I coming from under the vehicle. And, when reving, I only hear it right at 2k then stops. Nothing coming from under the hood when reved. It has got to be something stupid. Could it be a rust hole between the muffler skins. I'll try the rag over the tail pipe to check for leaks.
Already replaced the fan clutch a few years ago, not that sound.
Already replaced the front wheel brgs & CV seals at the pan, not that sound.
The main reason I posted was to isolate another TB problem that I was not yet aware of.
