White smoke has cleared up a bit

Well, since I done changed my oil and filters, my friends have pointed out to me that it isn't hardly putting out any white smoke on startup anymore. It does put out a small bit of dark smoke however. I think now it's just running rich or has the timing off slightly. I'm thinking the white smoke was just the old(10k miles) oil getting through the valve guides while the car sits.

true "white" smoke indicates water in the combustion chamber, usually from a leaking head gasket. it's pure white. i've never see a bad head gasket ever get better, always worse.
oil smoke can be light colored, but there is normally a tinge of blueish color to it.
worn valve guides will cause smoking on initial startup.
