My 96 LSI is not fitted with A/C and i was wondering if anyone ever installed an A/C Unit (compressor/clutch/electrical...) on Geo that doesn't come with it.
Thanks
Thanks

I have never installed one but I bought a 94 Geo Mero XFI with an after market AC system. Its made by SC Frigette and I installed a Pheonix oversize condenser because it runs across the Mojave on my commute between San Diego and Chicago. The AC was in bad shape when I got the car so I had to study and repair it. After that and looking over a the SC Frigette system it appears to me a AC system from a distressed Geo with AC could be used the only unknown for me would be the computer. Here is what I noted with the system I have. Uses about 3-4 MPG at 65-75 mph, there is no idle up that I can see, AC doesnt cut out under full throttle, dont know about the standard condensor but with the oversize it cools the car in Mojave heat or Imperial valley heat and humidity real nice far better than stock systems Ive owned, also its very reliable once I got it repaired. Hope this helps with your decision.

i would actually like to get hold of a similar car and do a side by side comparison. as far as the computer goes i don't think the car computer controls any climate control stuff it's mainly for engine control. If anybody has pictures of the positioning of the AC on the geo it will give me an idea on where to start.

At hardware level ie compressor, evaprator dryer, condensor hoses and tubing etc. I dont see any problem switching it out as long as you are meticulous and plug tubes dryer etc. with lint free cover right away. You may be entirely correct about the computer related to the AC system I never had any a reason to check this as my after market system is independent. However other systems Ive worked on the computer idles up the car, cuts AC compressor under full throttle and warns of low pressure. If I were thinking about that I would scan the error codes for Computer/AC related codes or there are some really sharp guys here in this forum. I would also get ahold of a good schematic and look for sensors and make sure the wiring is there for example AC clutch or if there is a separate harness.
