I got a 95 gxe and the antenna will not retract. This just started.

I have a 93 GXE and when I bought it, it was already like that(the car is used)
even I don't know what causes the problem although I would love to know what I can do to fix it.
so we're in the same boat...

try to go under maxima.org, under forums, under search, and see what you come up with. I can't seem to get in this area of the site.

If you hear the electric motor trying to retract it's a stripped antenna mast. If you don't hear the motor it could be a bad motor. You should be able to pick up an new one from ebay or buy a recycled one from www.car-part.com
There are instructions to replacing the mast all over the maxima.org forums.

thanks fellas for all the response, my antenna is stuck in the up position and I can hear the motor trying to pull it down, but it is not catching. I will check on ebay or go to a junk yard when it gets warmer outside. Until then will have to spray wash instead of going to a car wash.

You could try some lubricant and a little force to manually slide the antenna down when turning off the radio but your symptoms confirm my initial suspicion of a broken mast. I had the exact same thing happen to me and I picked up a recycled mast from www.car-part.com for $20.

yeah I tried that several times and srayed it with some wd-40, still would not go down, I was afaid that I would break the thing after a while so I left it alone. I'll try that website you gave me. THANKS
