BMW (Bad Motors Within)
Boy, have I got a story for you!!! I'll be posting it later this week after I document all the horrific details. Believe me, It's unbelievable!
NEVER HAD WORSE SERVICE IN MY LIFE
When I bought my BMW I thought BMW was a service company that stood behind it's products. Well, my car has been in the BMW dealer for over 60 days because of bad service, misrepresentation, and bad management. And to top it off, I can't get my car back because BMW made bad engines and won't admit it. The dealer wants to fix it, the warrenty company will pay for it, but BMW won't admit it. Well, I'm going to prove it! Everyone knows it, and now it's just a matter of gathering, documenting, and publishing the information.
I want to gather all the information I can get on bad engines and experiences with BMW engines. I'm going to pulish information that will be usefull to others who may have the same experience.
Let me know!

hey, my dad traded in his 93 750 il even on a 94 740il when they came out...... About 7,000 miles the car got this crazy idle....sorta like old big block with a nasty cam..... anyway went to the dealer they said the motor was shot..... something abut the computer was not sending oil to the right bank of cylinders...... long story short. new motor...... 7 moths later 18,000 miles same problem, but this time blowing smoke like diesel. took it back...... same problem with a twist. this time the car was dumping the oil when the piston was up instead of down....or maybe it down instead of up..... anyway all i know is that it had to have another motor..... Dad spoke wiht the "BIG WIG" rep. at bmw and told him the problem. also said he would pay $.50 a mile if they would let him trade up to a 750il...... the man look at my dad and said No..... dad goes well sir. Im a long time customer of BMW.. I have at this moment 4. 93 325 IS, 94 735IL, 94 740IL, and 94 850 CSI....... I don't think my asking to trade is that unreal........ The guy looked over and said Mr. Kerr I don't care what you want. I will not grant those wishes...... Dad said what if i say im going to take my business to MB? He said that is fine...BMW will not miss your money one bit.....
Well about 5 minutes later we are driving down the road in the 740 with the new #2 motor when dad stops atthe MB dealer and said Ill take that S600...... anyway long story short....sold all the bmw's with in 3 weeks...

sounds like you guys got lemons.... look at CLTRX 78,000 miles without 1 problem
my mom had a 740iL and guess what not one problem, my 328ci hasn't had 1 problem yet... and my mom's new BMW X5 hasn't had 1 problem yet either
so you guys got Lemons... and sounds like your dealerships are really bad. My BMW dealership gives great service

These guys did not get a lemon.
It's a common problem with these cars.
Plain and simple BMW screwed up in the design /testing of these motors. Because of such BMW should replace ANY affected motor regardless of time or mileage if it is still titled for road use.
As much as these cars cost there is NO excuse for BMW giving people the run-around.

The problem you refer to may be the Nikasil engines in the 1993 through 1995 M60 Bimmers. The Koala motorsport website as well as the 530i/540i website has a good tutortial on this problem and BMW did extend warranty and change out engines on many of these cars.

I just picked up mine about a month ago with 82K own it. I wish I would have known about this problem before would have got a newer one. Anyway talked to two different dealers today they both played dumb like they never heard of the problem. One guy told me it was fixed in 95 only the 94's where affected. I love this car don't drive it much seems okay so far. Taking it on the road next road next month. Keep me informed on your progress I need documentation good job and good luck

QUICKBIMMER,
BMW Dealers.... Always play "dumb" when it means money in THEIR pocket.
PS: If I was running BMWNA I'd shut-down about half of them as most of them are outright rip-off artists.

I just got a new Alusil block installed by the dealer under Factory warranty with 104000 miles on my 1994 740il. Thjey bitched at first and then also did the swap for only labor Warranty rate(23 hours). So while I had to pay for labor for the install and incidentals, I had them freshen up alot of parts they had to have off anyway and now have a car that drives and runs, brand new!! Good luck and don't let them off the hook. If your car fails the test(leak down) they will pay for the block (including oil filter etc...)if you pay for the labor and the leak down is free if the car fails the test and they do the work...

This thread seems to have the Nikasil problem at heart :banghead:. It concerns the V8s I believe and is because of the sulfur in the fuel. In CA. this isn't a problem because of the fuel mixture. It eventually will rot out the motor causing the leakdown test to fail. BMW will replace motors out of the 100k mi. but I don't think very far out of 100k. Blocks were changed in 95(?) and on to Alusil which corrected the problem. Cars have gone almost 200k without the motors failing in various parts of the country.
For good information see David Cecil's www.E38.org (http://www.E38.org) it is a MUST
Good luck!:2cents:

Here it is! BMW acknowledging the problem and warranty extension. Granted it is from an older letter but it is proof
