Latest project - 1934 Bugatti T59

Hi - Here are a few pics of my latest finished project - a 1934 Bugatti T59.

This was the last of EB's GP cars and was powered by a 3.3 litre supercharged engine based very closely on the American Miller design.

At a time when his main competitors were bringing out single seaters the T59 was still based on the old sports car format and it met with very limited success - nevertheless I think it has to be one of most beautiful cars ever to have graced the track.

This is a SE Finecast white metal kit in 1/24 which was first produced around about the early 70's. The kit comprises about 125 pieces and builds up very much as the real car did - the piano wire wheels are replicated in PE with alloy rims and are from the Le Mans Miniatures Type 57G Bugatti (they are now sold as a separate kit).

On to the pictures - hope you like.......

Beautiful does not begin to describe the quality of this build!! It's truly original and the workmanship shows in the pictures! Please feel free to post more pictures (particularly of the engine!) :sunglasse

Wow! That's beautiful. Was the entire kit (or even most of it) white metal or did I read that wrong? And 30+ years old? Astonishing! Either that kit is amazing, or you're a fantastic builder. My money is on both! Stunning work!

Thanks for the interest Gentlemen

Willimo - it's entirely white metal and has been around as long as I can remember - there is the address of Wills Finecast in the plans that you could write to for replacement parts but this kit is by South Eastern Finecast which is a company formed out of Wills in 1976 to concentrate on car models, the original kit therefore must pre-date the new company which is why I said early 70's.

To be honest I thought I was going to have a lot of trouble with it but the parts fit is amazingly accurate and beautifully detailed. In fact a joy to build but without the benefit of quick setting epoxies that we have now it must have been a nightmare originally.

Beautiful!
I agree that this is one of the all time great looking racers even though it wasn't successfull.
I 've been thinking about trying to build one in 1:43. Maybe 1:24 will do :-) The Le Mans Miniatures wheels are a neat trick to remember!
I'd also be interested in some close-ups of the engine ! :-)

Great work! Really very impressive. Did you buy the kit back in the 70s or was this an ebay find?

Pawlie - I bought the kit from Grand Prix Models because they also had the wheel kit.

Hi there I was looking at some SE finecast kit 1/24 on ebay and as I know zippo about them I looked online and was brought to your forum... I like to know more about those kits... all details and photos would be nice from you who made some... they seem to have a few rare models... I'm used to Franklin or Danbury but I'd like to know more about this finecast kits...
I made a garage diorama to take photos of cars i sell on ebay, I will try to post a photo if I find a way to do it or a link to my photos...:naughty:

This is the link of my photos... in French or English...

Ok, that worked... Pic is my diorama at an early stage, showing two kits I made in 1975 while in the army... Out of it I started working and they stayed 15 years on top of a wardrobe... I brought them back to life in 1990, changed a few parts, new paint... Ferrari P3 and Renault Alpine, the Ferrari 330 is from 1991... I don't make plastic kit since 1991, I now collect metal one...
