Ok looks like Im the proud owner of a 1999 old Alero 3.4 v6 :banghead:
anyway now for the prob
the car runs good but the steering some times goes really hard hard to turn either way but then after a while it will be fine again ?? yes the fluid is checked not leaking any idea as to what this could be from ? beside the power steering pump ?

Clogged lines, bad rack & pinion, or the pump is shot because of the previous problems.
These pumps often fail because the hoses degrade and particals damage the pump.

If you replace the pump, it is recomended you replace the power steering hoses, and install an inline filter.

Good Luck

Ok Let Me Clear This Up A Little Bit
I Have A 1999 Olds V6 The Prob That I Keep Having Is This
I Start The Car In The Morning The Steering Wheel Turns Great I Drive The Car For About 1km Are So Then The Steering Wheel Gets Really Hard To Turn If I Give The Car Gas As I Turn The Steering Wheel Turns Easy Again ! I Have Been Told That It May Be The Steering Rack But My Thought On This Are If It Was The Steering Rack Would'nt It Be Hard To Turn The Wheel All The Time ??
Please Help Dont Want To Start Change The Steering Rack With Out Knowing For Sure

Well that definatly sounds like your pump is going bad.

A pump by its self isnt to expensive, one with the resivour and VAS sensor(if your model has this) is expensive.

Both the pump and rack are about the same costs, though the rack is much more difficult to install.

If you think you might want to change your power steering pump, this page has some helpfull info. down about a third of the page.

It covers your Alero along with other N bodies.

Hope that helps and good luck.

ok thanks for the info I think Im going to change the pump this weekend
I guess it would not hurt to try it before the steering rack so on a scale of 1-10 on for the power steering pump being the prob what would you rate it as being 10 being 100% dure it is the power steering pump NOT the steering rack ?
