I'm a big Porsche fan, but I don't think it's as beautiful as the 993 GT2, which is the meanest looking Porsche ever.. now that was a race car, and it accelerated harder too...
as for the 996 GT2, theres no disputing its ability and speed, but it has become too soft, as in the 996 tradition....
EVO magazine, a very established and most respected performance car magazine here in the UK actually found some rather important faults:
"a bit blunt in the steering department... unnerving to push hard... its almost as though the front tyres never warm up... tail slips into a few degrees of oversteer without you even knowing it"
i was looking forward to reading about what the car would be like and it really disappointed me... thats not the only magazine thats given it bad press.... it doesnt communicate with the driver like Porsche's should, and that's a very big flaw IMO...
(i'd still have one though :))
cheers

i would choose a Turbo over the GT2 any day!

Hmm I rather have an GT2 it's a turbo with 462 hp and 215 pounds lighter. Have you driven both of these cars to say that?? The GT2 is so much better. No junk in the copit light as hell and the car kicks ass when you hit the boost.

I saw a GT2 on Tuesday at the car show, but I didn't take a pic. I should have, but then I would have used up all my film in the Porsche section alone.
I did take a couple pics of the 959, though. :D

But is it worth the difference in price? the turbo isnt that far off a GT2 in performance, on the track or off it. So youve got to ask yourself punk do u feel lucky?

The GT2 is better especially in launching :silly2: , and about junk in the cocpit , if you really want to drive this car on long trips you'll realize it's quite useful , as well as the awd of the turbo... I don't know about you but i won't spend this kind of money on a track car... I would use a turbo on the track also , but it will be still suitable for road driving , and still get nice laps on the track... And if you want more power you can get a 530 hp power package for less than the difference between a turbo and gt2 is , and have warranty for it too... and still have the awd...
So a tuned turbo for me... :D

But does it still blind the driver by creating condensation on the outside of the windshield on a hot humid night by inadvertantly CHILLING the interior windshield surface with the A/C like the 996?

My C4 is at
http://www.hobbystage.net/porsche/whatever
We picked it up at the factory last May, drove 1600 miles in 10 days, 7 countries, tour of the castles of europe. When I returned it to the factory I told them that something about the A/C wasn't right, I had to keep resetting the "target" temperature in order for us to be comfortable.
We picked it up at POE in late June and that night, late evening really, in Alabama the outside of the windshield misted over fairly quickly. Having had some experience with this due to the totally idiotic design of Lexus's climate control I checked immediately and discovered that a substantial level of the A/C cooling airflow was being directed toward the interior surface of the windshield.
I over-rode the "auto" mode of the system and had no more problems with it all the way home to Seattle. I though it might be a failure of some manner in the car but when I got home I checked a 99 996 and it does the same thing.
Does anyone know why Porsche/Bosch does this?
My local dealer's service manager wouldn't even write it up as a customer complaint since he said it was a designed in "feature".
A desgn FEATURE.
More like a design FLAW !!!
The reason I had to keep fiddling with the setpoint in europe was because much of the cooling efficiency of the system was being used, and lost, keeping the interior of the windshield COOL in the hot sun.
And of course on a hot and humid day in Alabama when the temperature starts to fall in the evening the cool windshield will soon reach the dewpoint of the outside atmosphere.
This IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE !!
So if you live in the south where it is oftentimes hot and humid in the daytime be very careful in your 996 about keeping that cooling airflow away from the windshield.
On the Oregon coast in the early evening I have had a Chrysler T&C windshield fog completely over virtually instantaneously due to the operation of the A/C within the vehicle inadvertantly cooling the interior glass surfaces. As we "dipped" down into a valley near the ocean shore the atmosphere was likely on the verge, cusp, of fog formation and guess what?

you have answered your own question.
They are extremely rare as a road going car.
Most people havent seen one - yet alone been in one,
hence they can't make comparasions to one......

i have a 996 it's no GT2 but...... if a flaw is the lack of car feed back to the driver i'd kill to drive a porsche that does not have this flaw, i was blown away at how responsive the car is and how i new what it was doing and if needed able to correct, i did some track time withthe PSM on and i was fast but did not have this "feel" that the mag is probably talking about, after 15 mins with the PSM on, i turned it off and took the car aout for another 30 mins, and the diffrence was amazing, i could drift the car in corners and knew what it was doing, like i said i have only driven my 996, but if other prosches have been known for better driver feed back and if the 996 is "lacking" it then i'd love to drive another that is not "lacking" in this department! :flash:
Q..

SHARP,
I think everyone here can relate to what you are saying.
If you get opportunity, take a 993 for a drive.
It lacks the pure raw steering feedback of earlier 911's,
but its chassis will give you all the feedback you want ! :)

For some reason I prefer the GT3 over the GT2. I prefer naturally aspirated sports cars over those that are turboed or supercharged. TO me they seem more raw and more pure that way.

Aside from the fact that the GT3 is a much better car than the GT2, look at it this way:
The GT3 was developed with racing in mind. The GT2 wasnt.
The 993 GT2, however, was very much designed for racing and comparing it to its successor is a joke. The 993 GT2 is infinitely better than the 996 version
