I have a 1996 Pontiac grand am with a 3.1L engine.
The other day i left the key in the on pos. overnight, and killed the battery.
I charged the battery and now the car starts and stall within three seconds.
I thought it was the theft system at first, but i tried the key on for 10min to reset it but this did not work. Also my theft light is on but it does not blink. However all of the dash lights are on.
The car will continue to run if i spray starting fluid into it. Which tells me i am losing fuel. I ckecked power from the realy and it has 12v.
After much research i believe the problem may lie in the ignition switch, Instrument Cluster, or the PCM. Although i cannot find any procedures for testing these, or the theft system.
Also before this happened all of the dash lights were on, and the lights in the console for lighting the PRNDL was not working.
Any ideas or what i should be checking will be greatly appreciated as I am stumped and do not have the funds to take it to the dealer.

Check fuel pressure. Sounds like the pump primes and gives you enough pressure to start, then once the injectors fire you lose pressure and it dies.

I tested the fuel pump and it keeps pressure even when it stalls.
Any other ideas ?

Yeah, I totally agree. When I get free help from professionals, I expect it to be very quick and be right the first time. Have fun figuring this out on your own.

was not talking about your "pros". was talking about the volume of users. And thanks already got help from an active forum. What an A hole.
