Considering 2000 Bravada

The SUV appears to be in good shape and well taken care of. Just wanted to know if there are any inherent issues I should consider having checked for specifically before purchasing.

Test drive it . Listen to the sounds it is making. Is it stuck in 4 wheel drive? Has the transfercase Lube been changed over to the GM Blue lube ? It all depends on Price, what you can fix (if anything is wrong) or what you can afford to have repaired. I love my 2000 bravada but it is stuck in 4 wheel drive right now and I am tring to figure it out. But I think the main thing to look at is the updated Gear lube for the Transfercase. Just like NoBrake says, be sure it's not stuck in AWD and there's not an AWD fault light on.
When driving, it'll feel like your running over a garden hose every 50ft., only a single bump.
As with all used car purchases, have the transmission fluid and FILTER changed to keep the good transmission good.
Have the transfer case fluid changed to the GM Autotrac II blue fluid as NoBrake also described.

Thanks for the input. Has anyone heard of issues with the 4.3 liter engine going out or repetitive issues of any kind. I have read in some reviews of a couple of issues. Is this a car you would recommend? overall the reivew I have found give the car a 4 out of 5 rating.

The plastic lower intake manifold gasket is going to let go....'jes don't know when, about $750 to have repaired....but the stock paper/composite gasket on my brother's 1966 Chevy 283 is holding just fine, thanks GM engineering :>/

Some folks pull the ATC (transfer case) fuse in the summer to keep it from trying to engage prematurely...gives the new transfer case fluid more time to clean & unstick things.

Actualy it was a combo of bad engineering. The plastic gaskets are superior to older gaskets until combined with Dex-Cool coolant. One change good, the other bad. There is a class action settlement to pay for gasket replacement cost: http://www.dexcoolsettlement.com/ but watch out for the "catches", especialy when you bought the vehicle and how long you owned it. In the case of my Pontiac, I missed the mark because I bought it used and owned it one month short of the ownership requirement clause. Damn the lawyers, they made millions on this one and managed to exclude me.

Thanks for all the input. I ended up buying the bravada. I know the dealer very well, he is a friend and nieghbor. He had the transfer case gone through and the new fluid put in it. I have driven the car for 300 miles and not issues.
