I have a '01 Accent. I noticed a kind of clicking coming from the back drum brakes when I apply the brakes while driving. I assume the shoes needed replacement but when I looked at them the shoes seemed to still have life (aprox. 50%) in them. Can anyone give me an idea what this noise could be. I can also vaguely feel it when pressing the brake pedal.

Sounds like your brake drums need to be machined. You will feel it in the pedal and hear a clicking noise when then drums are out of round.

i had a similar problem after changing the rear shoes.
seems the shoes weren't sitting properly on the lower platform. they were too low
so raised lettering on the drum struck the edge of the shoe as it turned.
compare to the position of the shoes on the cars other side and you'll be able to figure out if this is it..
examine your drum for a clue as to where its scraping.
