I love my lude. I really do. I just need a RWD car. I can probably get about 5k for the lude and was thinking about picking up a 240.
Is this (http://www.autotrader.com/findacar/vdetail.jtmpl?car_id=123903446&dealer_id=&car_year=1990&make=NISSAN&distance=100&max_price=4000&model=240SX&advcd_on=n&end_year=2004&min_price=0&certified=n&address=98092&search_type=used&advanced=n&start_year=1983&color=) a good deal?
I figure I'll have some cash to throw around after for whatever I want. Think this is something worth doing?
Like I said, I love my prelude, and have big plans for it, but RWD seems nice. Maybe I should just save up and finance a VG30DETT...

If you want my opinion, here goes...
I wouldnt buy the car cuz its already been moded. But if you really want go for it...
Just shop around a bit more. You'll prolly find another hb for cheap like I did($600).You just gotta know where to look.

whats with everyone and wanting to put a VG30DETT? its not that great of a motor. if your willin to go through all that headache to put in a motor, you might as well put in a RB motor in there, and if you don't care about keeping it in the family, then put a 2JZ GTE in it.

tat2 dat is so true!
everyone wants to stuff that big vg30dett into a 240sx...WHY?????
its jus more weight, and i think that the sr20det will proform the same if not better once you modify the motor, so take that left over money u were saving up for the vg30dett and wotk the sr20det motor!
one problem with the rb26dett or rb25det swap,
if something little goes wrong with your motor where are you gona get parts for the rb motor? u will have to import them from japan and the cost of doing that is crazy?
final thoughts go wit a 240sx with a sr20det swap and work the sr motor it is a very capable motor!

Prelewd, the one your looking at is a 90 so it has the sohc ka. This is still a very good motor even though it's sohc. check out the guys at www.realnissan.com they specialize in sohc ka's.

First of all, by buying a VG30DETT, I meant the engine with the car it came in wrapped around it, that being the 90-93 300ZXTT right? I hear the 90 model year has problems (ie brake rotor warp), so I'm opting for a 91.
I appreciate the information given, and I did not know that the 90 240 was SOHC. That's why I'm asking, to learn. What are the main differences between a KA engine and an SR engine? Aren't the SR engines a little on the steep side as far as price goes?
Thanks again for the info.
BTW: RB26DETT? Skyline? Sorry, I'm just a Honda guy expanding my horizons.

I believe the VG30DETT was used until the last year of the 300zx which was 96 I think.
89-90 240's are sohc and 91+ 240's are dohc. the sohc, ka24e, has 140 hp and the dohc, ka24de, has 155 hp.... not much of a difference.
I'd say the main difference between the KA and SR is that the SR is turbocharged from the factory while the KA isn't. SR's have been going up in price recently just because more and more people are catching on to the whole nissan thing and so they are buying sr's.
RB26DETT came in the R32, R33, and R34 skyline GTR

Fairlady went on through 2001 I believe in Japan.. Whether or not the engine code is VG30DETT, I don't know. I just read that it was 90-93 on some parts list somewhere.
I bet there is a bigger difference on the torque specs between the DOHC and SOHC KA24s. Are the SR's running similar numbers since they are, i'm guessing, smaller displacement (2.0 liter compared to 2.4), but running boost?
And can you really find a complete 240 for 600 dollars? Hell, I'd buy the shell, and just put an engine in it.
I think I'm too behind on the cash anyway. I have a 65 chev that i'm putting a blown 350 in probably. I think I need a better job.
Thanks for the help fellas.

Actually the torque on both of the KA's are the same I believe, 160 lb-ft.
S13 SR - 205 hp
S14 SR - 220 hp
S15 SR - 247 hp
yeah you can find 240's for that cheap but most of the time they wont be running. sometimes I guess you just get lucky and find someone selling a good one for cheap.

looks like a good deal, you should go see it first though, because when I bought mine I didn't think of looking at the wiring under the dash and a few weeks ago after I bought it I took a look and it looks like it was hot wired. It's such a headache.

and for the SR and torque question. all the SR's puts down around 203ft lb of torque. even though the hp rating will be ranging from 207-247 on different years of the SR's, they all have the same 203 ft lb of torque
