help with subs

i am new to this forum but this one looked like the best place to find the answer i am looking for. i have a 2002 monte carlo and i am trying to install a set of subs using the factory audio system. someone suggested tapping into the amp, but i have no idea how. i would appreciate any help that can be offered on this installation process

More knowledgeable people will respond but im pretty sure you'll need a line out converter if you plan on using the stock deck.

You can't really tap into an exsisting amp and use that to power an aftermarket subwoofer well. Usually stock amps put out power at different impedences then what you will want to run your sub at. So I wouldnt suggest trying to do that.

I would suggest buying an aftermarket amp, and using that to power your sub. you will also need an enclosure to put it in, unless you are going to build one yourself. Other than that you will need a wiring kit, and maybe a line out converter.

does the car have a premium sound system with a built-in amp ?

yes it has a factory built in amp i was hoping there was a way of tapping the input to get a signal to the aftermarket amp and just power my subs from it!!! without buying anything

good luck on that one .... besides, the factory sub amp probably only has like maybe 80 watts or so if you're lucky. try checking with the guys in the Ford forums, they might have experience with factory stuff.

yes id try to cut the rca to get input to the aftermarket amp and hook it up to the battery i just want a way to get imput to the amp but ill pull power from the battery like normal

i would just bypass the factory amp, run a line level converter on the lines, and run new power wire, and an aftermarket amp, you can keep the stock deck.

you are very persistent ... but it's not that easy. First you will have to find a wiring diagram for the stock system (I have NO idea where you would find such a thing except maybe a haynes manual), then you will have to splice into it and run the signal wires to the amp. You may also have to do impedance matching since I have NO idea what kinda of signal level they are sending. Then you will have to find a way to wire an auto turn-on for the sub amp. That sounds like an awful lot of trouble to me.

so what exact do i need to do the line out converter and how much will it cost

they are fairly cheap ...... you need to wire the input of the LOC to the output of the factory deck

you should take out the stereo take the wire (the one going to the factory amp) and use a 1-to-2 distribution block (got to "cardiscountstereos.com" there's one for $3.99), then rewire it to the aftermarket amp (input). then wire the subs to the aftermarket amp. the block's number is RFP9 (its by pyramid)
